NFL Combine
Six MAC players are competing in the NFL Combine in Indy. Eric Fisher is certainly the best "name" and should be a 1st rounder, but there is some pretty good talent behind him.
What's interesting to me is that it's mostly linemen. There were some pretty good Big Uglies in the MAC this season.

RE: NFL Combine
The combine is extremely overrated. Who cares if a guy runs a 4.6 when everyone thought he was going to run a 4.5. I took out my stopwatch on my phone and tried to start & stop it as quick as I could. The quickest I could do it was 1/10 or 2/10 of a second, and NFL guys and the talking heads on TV are making a huge deal out of 2/10 or 4/10 of a second? Come on! They should make everyone do the drills in FOOTBALL PADS since they will be wearing pads when they play! They aren't going to be running in compression shorts and a t-shirt.

Aren't those electric times?
The times are given in one hundreds of a second.
This isn't h.s. football.

Yes, it's electric timed. 40 times at the NFL combine are very accurate.
That being said, I always wonder why they don't have the guys running 40 times in pads. If you're going to put that much stock into what a 40 time is, wouldn't you want it to be more like game conditions? A guy wearing a track suit, track shoes, and no pads may run a 4.30 40, but end up being slower than the guy who ran a 4.45 40 once you strap on pads and stick them on a football field. Antonio Brown got dinged for his 4.55 40 time, but he's had no problem in the NFL, simply because he doesn't lose a single step when he's in full pads.

RE: NFL Combine
The 40 time is about acceleration and explosiveness, not about pure speed. That's why they make a big deal about linemen with good 40 times, especially defensive linemen.

RE: NFL Combine
That's why they do positional drills that measure ability to perform tasks important to a position as well general tests to determine overall athleticism. I think the 40 time is more important to linemen on both sides of the ball than people realize.
OL both interior and tackles pull and get downfield quite a bit these days. If you're too slow to stay out in friont of the ball, you have much less value. On the defensive side...QB's are getting more mobile...DL needs to be able to pursue sideline to sideline as well as get upfield. If you're too slow to keep the play in front of you, you have less value.
