That stands for "Support Tulsa Sports First".

Its always been my feeling that there needs to be an organization that will push local sports instead of the idea that Tulsa's teams are unimportant, substandard and bush league. IMO the Tulsa Sports Commission won't "BE" that because there is a contingent of people on that board that want to hold out for a Big 12 Tournament or a Thunder game or some other event they deem as big time. But in reality there is and never has been any proof that will occur except the occasional one and done event. IMO the goal of getting some so-called big event (as they define it) is a waste of time and effort and somewhat a distraction and it hurts local sports because it distracts from the STSF goal. So we need to concentrate on what can be achieved.

My idea would be to form a group of individuals that push the citizens in and around Tulsa to attend local sports events instead of those regional teams that try to cherry pick the good folks in Tulsa to go to FVille, Norman, Stillwater and OKC. We should promote the idea that people in this area ARE alums/fans and backers of the local programs because they live here and should make every effort to attend local events here instead of out of town.

Who to include? That would be all the ORU programs, the Drillers, Shock, 66ers, Oilers and of course TU sports.

Here are some ideas I have that would help this notion. If you go to an Oilers game or a Drillers game etc, you get an "event card" that gives you some free stuff like T-shirts or concessions, even free parking for events etc. It would be a kind of universal "coupon" for being a loyal local sports fan. It could be used as a discount card at any local STSF event. To me, I would like to see Tulsa become a better sports town and to work in coordination with the other area teams to promote those local events for the good of all. Increased attendence at all local events would be the goal. For instance, I want the Shock fans to come to the womens TU games and vice versa. And I want the ORU baseball fans to attend a TU FB game since ORU doesn't field football and TU fans to return the favor to ORU by attending their events like baseball (which we don't have). I'd start a promotion by giving away T-Shirts saying "Support Tulsa Sports First" on the front and all the logos of the above mentioned teams programs on the back.

I thought it was kind of neat to have all the area mascots at the ECU game last night even though they picked a bad night to do that promotion. Please promote this notion to a city counsellor or anyone you think might get something like this started.
