Memphis made the right hire in Fuente and hopefully Larry brings SMU basketball up. We both need a couple of years to be attractive.

I think we did make a good hire in Fuente, but it sometimes takes a long while to get a bad football program turned into a winner. Larry can turn SMU into a winner in hoops with one blockbuster recruiting class.

The NBC deal is MORE than the ESPN deal. Opening the wallet isn't the problem. ESPN allowed NBC to low ball the offer then stepped in and used their name to get the contract at a lower price than NBC low ball offer.

I remember how bad that I thought the $30 to $40 million number was when the media hacks were floating that about the time Boise State left. I never thought it would end up at $20 million.

That's a real possibility. It appears that B1G, SEC and eventually the B12 have their feasting eyes on teams in the ACC one day in the near future

This is why the lowball payout doesn't bother me as much as it does other fanbases. It's inevitable that the ACC will get raided and possibly to a point that there will hardly be anyone left, once the B1G, SEC and Big 12 are done. Memphis just needs to get in with the remnants.

Our 2012 CUSA TV deal pays us $1.3 mil a year. The new BE deal pays $1.8 per team per year. The increased travel cost for an all sports team to travel will eat up the $500,000 per year increase we got.

We may end up in an eventual ACC with Louise, Cindy, UCF and USF. I bet the Louise fans would **** a brick.

Why the assumption so many games would be ESPNU instead of ESPN or ESPN2.

If a Memphis-SMU game is on ESPNU that is better then now.

Memphis-UConn will be ESPN.

Are you sure travel will be that much more expensive?

Not likely.

Plus, while this is not the Big East expected in February, 2012 (Bye Louisville, Notre Dame, Boise State...7 catholic schools), it is stronger than the current CUSA so more revenue will be earned within our own athletic department too.

Memphis-UConn will be ESPN.

Because ESPN already has such a massive amount of content. The Big East will naturally be pushed to the lower end outlets (ESPNU, ESPN3 online), especially in football. I agree that Memphis basketball will get a good bit of ESPN and ESPN2 against good opponents.

Most of our non revenue sport travel by bus or private vehicle except for the absolute longest trips. Now many will either have to double date trips which will increase lodging and food cost, or they will have to fly to more events.

I know I'm probably in the minority here but I really wish NBC would get the BE TV rights..To me ESPN has had a hand in ruining the College game altogether..It's all about the almighty dollar now and about being in a BCS Conference..They are ruining every facet of what the Collage game use to be about..What chances are Teams not in the future BCS conferences really going to have..Look there's no
dought ESPN is the best at sports coverage but I'd rather not be a part of that evil empire..JMO

Well, we're back to rooting for chaos again. Either nothing much happens, or the ACC gets hit. They don't have to be "gutted" for us to make it. They have 14 teams. They need to lose about 4 to 8 for us to get in, depending on which teams they lose.

Likely...but losing 8 would be a gutting.

Even losing 4 more really.
