Heck it was less than 75 years ago the churches in the south were still supporting and advocating segregation. Go back 160 years and you have the church supporting enslavement of humans.
Even today many churches do not support equality between male and female.
It is these people that make religion orgnaized.
Good point Belt. Southern Democrats led by Al Gore Sr. Democrat, Sam Ervine, Democrat, Bull Connor, Democrat, William Fullbright, Democrat, George Wallace, Democrat, and several others helped keep segregation alive in the south. As did many church's. Oddly, many black church's in the south remain pretty much segregated even though all Jim Crow laws have been gone for years. Could it be that people tend to gravitate towards others of like mind and culture? Noooooooooo, simply not possible in our utopian society
You're free to join or not join the Egape Church, with does advocate that the male is the head of household. Same with some of the odd sects of the Mormine culture, although I'd say that borders on a cult as much as a religion.
Dip - reading a lot of your posts is so like watching Fox or MSNBC. All the effort is just to make one political party look bad.
Remember Strom Thurmond? Democrats were in the majority by far on this issue, but then they ran the south too.
My point was that civil injustice was/is perpetuated by organized religion. For whatever reason you decided to turn it into a political discussion
Hate to break the news to you Belt but Strom Thurmond was a DEMOCRAT too. He changed parties when the Democratic party became the party of hippies in the late 60's. Strom change parties quicker than Robert Byrd jumped out of his Klan attire. Dixiecrat is a popular term used by the Libs today to pretend these Icons of the Democratic party weren't "really" like them, as well as to try to rewrite history.
Tell me, what organized religion perpetuated civil injustice? Was it the Quakers
See, when you paint with a broad brush, ("Catholics are icky in their beliefs, and all priests are scary") you open the door for all kinds of uncomfortable examinations.

In my posts on this thread I have never made a disparaging comment about Catholics nor Catholicism, mostly just organized religion in general. So not sure what your intent is in responding with this comment?

Yep, no one should ever get upset when religion is mocked and attacked. As I stated earlier, we must take gay pride parades seriously, as well as nut job groups like Code Pink, Operation PUSH, Occupy Wall Street, etc, but religion.....................mock away.

Hey, we agree. I mock religious zealots of all kinds, quite often. Great fun.

99% of people attend church to affirm their values, teach their kids to be accountable to themselves, and to help the community. Somehow a portion of the population has decided that just not cool, and worthy of mocking.
