OU to join the B1G? (Link to Syracuse board post)

It makes a lot of sense considering the financial advantages and the academic advantages. This gets more interesting by the day 04-jawdrop

Not going to happen.

Unfortunately the ACC that Syracuse planned to join will likely look noticably different than expected.

Oklahoma and Kansas as #15 and #16 wouldn't shock me.

Maybe Virginia is the Missouri in this scenario...the school that feels like it should get a B1G invite, but never does. The dominoes drop as follows (completely hypothetical):

Virginia and UNC to SEC
Texas stays in the Big 12 with the "Notre Dame" deal (independence with 5 required games against Big 12)
West Virginia and UConn to ACC
Big 12, down to 6, adds 4-6 schools from the Big East

The posters on that board, who probably know this guy a lot better than we do, are openly mocking him. Just wanted to note that.

Is there somewhere I can go to sign up for this set of dominoes? Because as a Virginia (and Bama) fan, yes please. No idea how that would work with the B12 GOR, but that's not my concern.

Don't respond to this BYU troll. The MWC fans were very glad to get rid of him. Unfortunately for the Texas fans on Shaggy Bevo, they are now getting to enjoy his company.

I heard the same thing on an Insider board I visit. This is happening right after the tournament apparently. The same guy was the first to post about Penn State to the B1G. There was also a tweet with a link to the blog about the message board post. I'll see if I can find it for you all.

Oklahoma would fall into the definition of a midwest university I would think, as they are not southern, western, or northern.

In what way? Obviously, you don't believe that OU is going to leave the Big 12 (despite actively flirting with other conferences the last 2 years) for more money or better academics? On the other hand, you do believe that North Carolina (who has never publicly flirted with any conference) is going to suddenly bail on tobacco road and lead the charge out of the ACC (thus causing ACC instability and making it "noticeably different") despite how culturally entrenched they are?

Right. I've also got beach front property for sale down by Norman. Interested?

KU, OU, and UT. It's contiguous with the current B1G and would be a far bigger coup for the B1G then the speculation sent out by some with agenda on what the B1G could obtain on the atlantic seaboard.

The thing is it is probably more realistic, too.

It's realistic until you realize you are talking about Texas and Oklahoma playing in the Big 10.

RE: OU to join the B1G?
A Kansas/Oklahoma/Texas sweep does oddly make some sense...but OU has two HUGE things working against them--population and academics. Florida State...whom I see as a somewhat similar candidate as OU...has population and recruiting grounds.

But because we speculate on everything around here...envision four pods on the way to 20 teams...a mostly Big 12 pod...two old Big Ten pods...a mostly ACC pod.

UT
OU (Nebraska protected)
Kansas
Northwestern
Minnesota

Nebraska
Illinois
Iowa
Wisconsin
Minnesota

Michigan
Purdue
Indiana
Michigan State
Rutgers

PSU
OSU
UVA
UMD
UNC

I still can't imagine OU making the cut...

It does make sense. And the money the BTN would bring in would be obscene. The B1G would strengthen both football and basketball and the B1G brand would be second to none. It would be a huge win for the B1G. As for the poached B12 schools the new amounts of obscene money they could bring in along with access to the CIC would be without measure.

You are right in the fact that OU is not AAU. However, under this scenario the B1G gets two AAU schools (Texas and Kansas) and keeps things contiguous (which they much prefer). Plus, getting the flagship school in the state of Texas would dwarf anything they could land along the atlantic seaboard in terms of population, prestige, and recruiting (FSU and the state of Florida notwithstanding). FSU is also not AAU (like OU). Taking OU's huge football brand in a relatively non-populated state just to land UT too is not much of a "sacrifice" in this scenario.

But, you are right. It does make some sense for all parties. And if Delany was truly as brilliant as the West Virginia folks seem to always think he is then this would be a no-brainer. He really should stop dicking around with the likes of Virginia which the eers have rumored like crazy and actually try to land a deal that would boggle the mind and blow all other conferences out of the water in terms of money and prestige.
