Does his boss Eddie Williams have a comment?

However this ultimately turns out, we should be thankful to Grady for his department's handling of the 2/14/08 shootings.

The day that Eddie Williams gets canned is the day I break out the booze and celebrate. I don't think we'll see that day for quite awhile, however.

I have to think that this is all part of a behind-the-scenes housecleaning. I have no evidence to support this other than rumors I've heard, but I find it hard to believe that the biggest cockroach will find a way to survive this time.

My guess is that Eddie Williams has started using his sick days, told to fade away and will retire July 1 with Dr. Peters. Has anybody seen him working since Jan 1?

I totally agree, his response to what happened that day was outstanding.

This will probably cost NIU a small fortune. He will laywer up, play the race card and hit a huge settlement.

I'm sure it will be even worse with Fast Eddie W.

Who let Eddie get so much power? Board? Dr. Peters?

Probably the Board. My guess is because of political pressure.

he wanted the Pres job when Peters was hired. So what do they do when he did not get it, they promoted and gave him a big raise. I would like to know how old he is. He has to be near retirement. I would br surprised if he is still here when new Pres is announced

How President Peters put up with him all these years is a mystery. Dr. Peters is a saint. I would not be surprised if EW is one of the reasons why he is leaving/retiring.

It's not hard to fire someone. However, if that person has political ties and the backing of the governing board, then it's almost impossible. Dr. Peters can now rid himself of this pestilence.

As DF said, on NIU's worst day, Chief Grady and his department performed as well as any police department could have in my opinion.

Not excusing whatever may have happened afterward, but I imagine any damage he may have done is outweighed by his department's performance on that day.

Exactly. Even though it was NIU's worst moment, Chief Grady and Dr. Peters projected a highly efficient, effective, compassionate, and professional picture of NIU to the nation and world. I was never prouder of NIU than I was that day.

PESTILENCE means a deadly and overwhelming disease that affects an entire community. A perfect word Dog Fan

Political backing is a soft thing when you're talking about someone with no votes or money to deliver. Well placed "friends" have a tendency to wilt when handed a strong case why someone needs to go.

Most people do not know that NIU Campus Police are BETTER TRAINED than the Illinois State police. The requirements to even be an NIU officer are stricter than most city police departments.
NIU police handled 2/14 WAY better than any other police department could have. At that time Chief Grady was a Godsend for NIU and the students.

I do not know what has happened since, but on 2/14 NIU was lucky to have him and his very well trained department.

Like I said...don't know what has happened since but if he needs to go then so be it.
