You sound like the old man, Bill Wirtz.
....I kid....
Ha ha. I do wonder, if people stay home to watch on TV instead of going to the game. Especially if it's cold out. But we need the TV exposure.
Honestly, I don't think so. If we're not on TV, we just vanish from the Chicago-area sports conversation completely...The way the Blackhawks basically did when they went through their lean years before the old man croaked.
Maybe if people were planning on going, see crappy weather and figure they can watch it on TV instead, it may cost us a few. Overall, I think seeing our games on TV regularly reminds that casual fan "Oh yeah, I wanted to go see them this year."
Better to be seen by as many eyeballs as possible. I don't like the weeknight crap, but it's hard to deny that the MAC's profile has gone up since the whole MACtion thing kicked in. (which we and Toledo basically cemented in 2011).
Look at a school like Arkansas St. They could lay some claim to being about as good as us over the last two years (probably short of that, but playing devil's advocate here), yet their national profile is basically zilch because the Sun Belt doesn't whore themselves to ESPN.
A State gets better crowds for their games because they're almost all on Saturday, they pay their coaches more, but people know the MAC schools more and the MAC, as little respect as it gets, gets more than the Sun Belt nationally (and I'm not so sure we're really any better a conference than them).
