To analogize with HBG current events....is just like a tornado...mindless and selective in destruction

If Texas is #1, I'm surprised Texas A&M isn't in the top 20. They were 11th in the country in attendance (87,000 a game), about 20K ahead of Arkansas and almost 30K a game ahead of a couple of Pac-10 schools on that list. In terms of merchandise, I see as many A&M stuff in Texas as I do UT.

I agree with the thrust of your comment. Programs' value to the world of athletics shouldn't be based on money. Since this ranking was performed by Forbes magazine however, I'm not surprised that it's a strict financial analysis. They would be completely out of their realm if it wasn't. But I suppose that hasn't stopped anyone else from being an "expert" in college athletics

If you're in Houston, Houston has always been much more of an A&M town than Dallas, Fort Worth, or just about anywhere in the state other than Bryan/College Station.

The fact that 40% of the top 20 are SEC schools doesn't surprise me. Shoot, even their second tier is taking over additional markets. Ole Miss has smothered Memphis and the Commercial Appeal with advertising and promotion.

Hugh Freeze is even giving a free pep rally over breakfast at long-time Memphis Tiger stronghold, Hope Church on March 9th.

"One town, one goal, one team!"

Since none of our programs are ever likely to be on lists like these, I always find it odd to see them on Gang of 5 member boards.
