now a new home for the business school and a new cutting edge bio research lab, that might pique the interest.

FWIW, in addition to their $1.1B endowment, UC has just raised another $1B through private funds. They garner $500M a year in research and last year launched a partnership with GE Aviation to start a research institute studing jet engines. I am sure that was all part of the DVD Santa Ono sent.

So I'm hearing there are some deep pocket alums?

Cinci has fairly solid academics. Better than Louisville's. They may not be Duke, UNC, or UVA, but they're no slouch.

^^^ UC doesn't have a Phil Knight or a T. Boone Pickens, but they have a large number of living alumni (over 250,000). In addition, they have received donations from a number of businesses (little known fact: Cincinnati is home to nine Fortune 500 companies)

Not just deep pocketed alums, but Fortune 500 companies that care very deeply about UC, and it academics moving forward. UC is not the school it was 20 years ago, or even 5 years ago. UC academics have grasped the idea of moving forward, they are on the brink of gaining AAU status, and are a huge research university with a very large endowment. Now if we could just get the athletic department to catch up with the rest the University will be in the greatest shape ever.

Thank you. UC has one of the top ranked Design Schools in the world — DAAP, a highly regarded Engineering College and is home to one of the nation's leading conservatories of music — CCM. UC is considered one of the "next in lines" for AAU status due to UC being heavily invested in research.

http://chronicle.com/article/As-AAU-Admi...-to/65200/

"Research heavyweights that can make good arguments for joining the AAU include, but are hardly limited to, Boston University, Dartmouth College, Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, North Carolina State University, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Georgia, and the University of Miami. Officials at several of those institutions acknowledge that they would like to join the club."

The trajectory that UC has demonstrated is impressive, and I say that as an alum of a school that just spent the last 20 years navigating the ascension to the upper tier of universities.

I wish the Fortune 500 companies in Charlotte had as much interest in Charlotte as the Fortune 500 companies in Cinci do in UC.

They don't ignore us completely, but they don't seem to have a deep vested interest in the university.

Pretty sure Syracuse, Louisville and Pitt would vouch for Cincy when the time comes.

Memphis needs a few more years to grow academically. Great place to visit for a game though.

Maybe, But If the ACC loses more than 2 teams, Memphis will need to grow really quickly if you get my drift...

UC's president is named is Santa. They were not holiday cards. They were Christmas cards....

Yeah, and Louisville isn't getting into the ACC either.

I don't understand why Universities don't get it: Modern architecture does not age well!

Truthfully Universities spend way too much on new capital projects, but if you are going to do it focus on Medical, Bio, Research etc. FWIW many publications say our campus and buildings are some of the best.
