Zach Garber
Had 45 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks last nights. He shot 2-3 from three point land as well. I'm looking forward to having him as a Rocket! (Vanlue/Mohawk Game)

He plays AAU ball. How does he do there? I thought he would be better than a project.

Garber played for All-Ohio Red, the best AAU team in Ohio. He has played against some of the top players in the country during the summer, and done a good job. Also on that team were Lauf (UT), Loving (OSU) Hayes and Brown (both Wisconsin). I would not call him a project. He has good offensive skills and is a good rebounder. I wouldn't be surprised if he does a nice job of contributing next season.

Not sure if he's 6-10, but that's another story.

Having never actually seen him play, my impression is Richard Wonnell type with good hands and softer touch.

Much more skilled than Wonnell. The highest rated of UT's three recruits by ESPN and a three star recruit by Scout.com.

How would we know if Wonnell has a soft touch? I know there is a myth out there that he took a shot earlier in the year but I suspect that's just a story making the rounds. I heard the same person say Lemons took a couple earlier in the year as well. Neither of these claims carry any credibility.

RE: Zach Garber
Garber will be a great addition to the Rocket Basketball team. He will be a force in the paint, and he shoots well otherwise. He will be tough to deal with due to his athleticism.

Highly rated for a reason. Zach looks to me like a team player. We have all kinds of reason to be excited about this signee. Lauf is an athletic kid as well.

This class will bring a lot of offense, and will add nicely to the depth.

I like where this is going.

Go Rockets!!

Napolean has not fared well this year in spite of LAuf's sterling play.

RE: Zach Garber
Had opportunity to see him play last night. It was probably an emotional game since he was playing against his coach from last three years and relative due to marriage who was fired by Vanlue Superintendent. Reason I mentioned all that is that he didn't play all that well. Didn't seem to have the inner fire that it will take to be a big time player. On the other hand, he has good ball skills, moves well, and seems to understand the game. I have been blessed to coach and coach against multiple major and mid major players in last 20 years and feel he is at the correct level and will be a major factor his last two-three years. It will take him at least one year to get strong enough and tough enough for a long college schedule. By the way, I heard from a relative of his that he could of beat the regular season career scoring record owned by his step father. Instead he took himself out of a blow out so the record would stay his step fathers. A five star in that regard. Also supposed to have a 4 pt gpa. Overall good get by Toledo in my opinion.

Saw him play against AW this year, tough game for Napoleon as they were absolutely dominated. It's hard to tell how truly good Lauf is from that game. But he is definitely an athlete with good size and bulk.

What kind of impact do you think he will have once on campus? Immediate or is he going to redshirt?

Of the 3 incoming freshman I would not be surprised to see Lauf and Garber redshirt... If not for the 3 transfers and 6-7 Aubrey Williams coming in, there would be no doubt that all three freshman would play... Jonathan Williams, I think can step in right where Buckley takes off... He is that good... Think (Justin Ingram)...
The Rockets will definitely have the luxury of going deep in their bench next year without having to throw all the freshman into the mix...But who knows, (Garber, and Lauf) may be good enough to relegate some of the veterans to the pine...

My hunch is that J. Williams will play & not RS if only due to the graduation of Buckley & Lemons being counted on as the back-up to Juice rather than being a "shooter". Side note: I wish Buckley shot more. I think whether or not Lauf & Garber RS will depend on whether or not Aparicio is eligible (for Lauf) and whether or not A. Williams has benefitted from his RS year and is physically ready to contribute and/or if Garber's skill set is more helpful to the Rockets than Wonnell's (for Garber). Selfishly, I want to see all 3 play next season...

Considering that you lose only Buckley to graduation, but that Coach K rides 7 guys pretty hard....I would think that all 3 should play. A quick look at the MAC stats last week had 3 Rockets in the top 10 of minutes played in the conference. It's one thing if Brown and Pearson don't have enough talent around them (think BGSU with Calhoun and Crawford), but Toledo should not have that problem next year.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd be shocked if you guys don't go 9 or 10 deep next year, with most everyone getting double digit minutes.

RE: Zach Garber
EA3, I think most Rocket fans are expecting that our 2 Div. 1 transfers (Weatherspoon from Ohio State and Drummond from Loyola/Maryland) will get plenty of minutes next season...heck, one or both may even start...tack on 6 returnees who saw the most playing time (Pearson, Brown, Smith, Boothe, Holliday & Lemons) and that takes you already to 8...then there's Wonnel who is 6'9" and will be a senior, and a 6'6" potential transfer from Spain (waiting on eligibility), and you're at 10, without even adding in Aubrey Williams (6'7" who redshirted this season) and the 3 incoming freshmen...someone isn't gonna be able to get on the floor--it will be interesting for we UT fans to see who does and who sits...but I do agree with you that next season, UT won't be worn down as easily by some of our MAC brethren as was the case this season, and I fully expect (injuries aside) that UT will go 9-10 deep...

RE: Zach Garber
Coach K has recently said that he has no problem red-shirting freshmen if they aren't going to contribute significantly their first year. My guess is that Garber and Williams play for sure. Even with Garber we probably have the shortest team in the MAC. Williams can be a dynamic player who has a good chance to get minutes. Lauf's playing might depend on his outside shooting.
