Am I the only one who thought/was hoping that this is the pole this thread was talking about.

Nice photo shop by SI...because Danica's front side is just as flat as her backside.

The first Twin/Duel race today should be the most interesting...as that one has Danica and her teammate Tony Stewart starting up at the front, plus draft pal Dale Jr starting #6.

Danica has to learn how to work the draft in these new cars...either in front or behind someone...but if she can be fast in the draft...it will help her gain more friends on the track...which could come in handy on Sunday, let alone this afternoon.

Here's the line-ups for both races this afternoon:

Uhm.. .doesn't everyone have to learn how to draft these new cars? I'm not even sure what the changes are on this batch of cars this time around? I just know they were talking about people having to learn them basically "all over again". (Heard that while watching some of the practice laps this past week).

In first Duel, Danica goes from pole to 22nd (last car in draft) in about 10 laps.

Before race she said that she was going to run up front as long as possible but the high line just left the cars on the bottom behind. She couldn't get to the top and gradually just safely worked her way back.

She's got her work cut out for her, but I have a feeling she's going to win a high profile race sometime this year...

...and not just because of her lack of experience, but also being a woman driving against a sordid set of 42 males every week. Maybe that is why she started dating a fellow competitor to reduce it to 41...lol

...her winning a race? If she does, she may get more air time than Tiger in his prime.

I would have gone to the back regardless. The last thing she needed was to wreck, or get wrecked being on the pole. I don't understand why the pole sitter runs in the Duel.

This will sound a little goofy, but she did a good job of safely working her way the back when it became obvious that she wasn't getting to the faster top lane.

Carl Edwards out after being clipped by Denny Hamlin. Others damaged including Trevor Bayne who led most of the early laps. As they have done lately, the Woods Bros have some of their older graphics on their car.....they are using 1963 this year.

In most years, I'd highly consider exactly that.

This year is a little different with the new Gen 6 car. They are all trying to get as many laps as possible in competitive situations to get used to how it reacts.

I thought about that....and in reality the pole at Daytona, 'Dega, and some others is not really important when it comes to racing in trim. I also believe that is what practice is for. However, to your point, there is a difference between practice and racing in "dodge dip duck dive and dodge" fashion.

If I am her, just looking at it from the perception side, it could've proved devastating to her psyche to have to go to the back in a back-up car. ...and I don't consider that a sign of weakness. IMHO, her being on the pole and keeping that position is important come race day. Now that she has done that, finishing should be her next goal.

edit: If I remember correctly, she suffered through a miserable two weeks last year at this time based on successive failures.

The only part of the 2nd duel that will be interesting is to see if Mike Bliss can race his way into the 500.

Going home right now is Brian Keselowski

Only other drivers that can be sent home are Reutimann and
Kvapil

Brian lost the draft in a big way at the start and never recovered. Not sure if he had other troubles or not, but he was 2 laps down.

I'm disappointed that he couldn't race his way in just because that's Jimmy Means' car. Smut's been around a long, long time.

Brian's team was just hoping for a big crash, they threw that car together at the last minute because only 45 cars entered.

I should have studied up a little more on the qualifying process, i forgot about the stupid past year owner points provisionals

i wouldn't say it would have damaged her psyche, but I think she knows, staying up front keeps her out of any potential early rush messes (and you know there's usually one).

She better find some "friends" to race with in practice today or tomorrow...or Sunday could be a very long day for her.

At least she will be starting Sunday from the OUTSIDE lane (her choice)...which will give her a better chance to stay up front for the early part of the race.

It will be funny if Stenhouse and her survive the big one and race to the finish. Imagine that tandem and how the other drivers and media will respond. Without even looking, I would bet they are already playing this scenario out.

I always love to watch this race, but this is a twist that could make things very interesting.
