Miami hockey on national TV twice this weekend
#3 Miami has a 1 point lead on #6 Western Michigan and a 3 point lead on #12 Notre Dame. Miami plays ND twice this weekend, Western plays ND twice next weekend. On Friday night Notre Dame at Miami is at 7:35 on CBS Sports Network (of interest to hockey fans, the new National Conference that WM and Miami will be a part of next year has signed an 18 game contract with CBSSN for next year).

Normally Miami would then host ND again on Saturday night, but we gave up the home game to be part of a big outdoor DH at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday. Miami and ND play at noon Central and Minnesota and Wisconsin play a WCHA league game a half an hour after the first game ends. The Miami/ND game will be telecast by FSN nationally (unless one of the local franchises has a game, like the Cavs or BlueJackets, etc.) It can be seen on FSO and FSD in this area. As of Monday 44,000 (60,000 available) tickets had been sold and the Miami athletic department had sold more tickets than any of the other 3 schools. Miami has never played in an outdoors game before.

Great to hear we sold so many tickets, especially considering how close Madison and South Bend are to Chicago. We have a decent alumni following in Chitown though, so it's not a huge surprise, given how much we follow hockey. I'll be at the game Friday, will hope my FSN carries Sunday, where we'll debut some new uniforms for that one game only.

Beat 'em! BG needs another late season drive to Detroit like last year.

No score early in the 2nd in Oxford.

RE: Miami hockey on national TV twice this weekend
Miami Hockey also just got a $2 million gift from two donors to put in new weight room and media / players rooms to Cady Arena:

The weight room will consist of four areas for the student-athletes' use. One section will be an off-ice shooting area where players can improve their shot, while simulating being on ice with a specialized surface. The second area will be the actual weight room with free weights and workout machines. Along with that will be a cardio center for players to improve conditioning while also being able to test for various body metrics. The fourth and final segment of the new space will be a coaches/media room.

These will be dedicated to Hockey only.

Broncos and Bucknuts tie 1 - 1. Western wins the shootout for the extra point.

Miami is up 2 - 0 on ND in the 3rd.

Should that stand, Miami has increased their lead by 1 point tonight over the Broncos.

Final score 3-1, with an empty net goal coming towards the end to seal the deal. The donation for Goggin is great news, not only for hockey, but our athletic program as a whole. Sayler's biggest selling point was that he could land big donations for new construction, so perhaps the long-awaited IPF is in the works.

I have heard that Miami in the past had a policy of not letting the athletics department solicit a donation from a donor that was previously on another donor list from another part of the university. For example, if a donor was on the business school list, then the athletic department could not also solicit a donation from that same person or entity. Donor lists were kind of territorial even among other organizations. That policy has now been lifted and Miami Athletics has full access to all donors across the university and can really sell its vision and raise some money now that no other athletic director could do before. I think it will really make a difference.

Huge win over 3rd place Notre Dame... Miami is good shape to win the CCHA and get a great seed in tourney. (but WMU still lurks!). Man, I will miss beating the likes of ND, Michigan, OSU and MSU in hockey whent the B10 weenies break off for their own lil' conference.

Western falls to OSU, giving Miami an opportunity to open up a siginificant lead if we can beat ND again Sunday. BG and Ferris split.

Watching the Miami-ND game on Comcast....with the sun out, the glare must be unbelieveable...not sure how the guys can see the puck, much less the goalies. So far not many scoring opportunities...ice is not good and puck is bouncing all over the place.

Notre Dame wins 2-1. Miami in first, WMU 2 points behind, and ND 1 point behind them. 4 games (12 potential points) left.

Thank you, Notre Dame. ND wins, 2 - 1.

Broncos get ND in Kzoo next weekend for 2. 05-mafia Miami travels to Lake Superior State for a pair.

Miami up 2 pts. on WMU, ND is 1 back of WMU.

Gonna be a great finish to the final CCHA season. 04-rock

Miami knew when it agreed to play this game that giving up a home game vs one of the top teams in the league (ND) could end up costing us in the league standings or the pairwise rankings, but it was just too great of an opportunity to pass up. Great exposure for our program, plus we have tons of alums in the Chicago area. Our AD has been there all weekend talking with wealthy Miami alumnae hoping to get some donations to finish off the indoor practice facility and a few other projects.

The choppy ice completely took away our speed game, which is most of our offense (Miami is not a particularly good offensive team, we have been winning by giving up the fewest goals in the country). The CCHA race will likely go down to the last game.

Incidentally, the Notre Dame at Western Michigan game on Friday night at 7:35 is nationally televised on CBSSN.

Couldn't agree more. In the long run, having these special types of games will pretty much always benefit us, especially if the payout from the TV and ticket sales turns up well. I'm sure Sayler is cooking up something good for the football program with him already finding some money for the Goggin improvements. He'll have a lot more freedom with soliciting donations too with the new rules, a good thing for us.

Sorry if I missed it, but what are the new rules? Is the development office letting the AD go directly after donors?
