I fyou have one midweek home game in a year, with a schedule that comes out several months before the games are played, people who want to make a game can make it work. ACC teams and (current) Big East teams do it. SEC teams are having to do it as well. PAC 12 has quite a few built into their new contract. BYU had four midweek games this year, and still averaged over 60,000 per game. ECU is no different than anyone else. Your fans can suck it up and make it to a midweek game.

A midweek game yes, but you mentioned the MAC and they play a pile of them. If we are talking about the Big East having that number of midweek games then hell no. ECU made a massive stink about playing home midweek games when C-USA had the deal with ESPN. We pretty much made it clear we'd play as many as necessary on the road but we weren't interested in having them at home. I expect we'd take the same stance in the future as well. There is also a huge difference between Thursday night games (generally accepted big game night) and even Friday night ESPN games are starting to get that level of acceptance, vs the Tuesday and Wednesday ones that are absolutely accepted as crap time filler games.

I don't mind the conference doing mid week games. Just no more than one mid week home game per team.

RE: Heard today...
I used the MAC as a reference for how it gave the league exposure it otherwise would not have had. Did you realized they only had 7 midweek games last year* including their Friday Night CHampionship game? Honestly I didn't either, but I went back and looked. That's an average of one per team, period.

From what I can tell, here's how the weekday appearances stack up (note that 1 conference games equals two appearances):

Code:
Conference    T    W    TH    F    Ttl
Atlantic Coast 0    0    8    0    8
Big East           0    0    6    8    14
Big Ten           0    0    0    0    0
Big XII           0    0    0    1    1
Conference USA 0    0    6    0    6
Independent 0    0    1    3    4
Mid American 8    4    2    3    17
Mountain West 0    0    1    5    6
SEC            0    0    0    0    0
Sunbelt            4    0    8    3    15
Western Athletic 0    0    0    2    2

* I did not include opening weekend nor the games on Thanksgiving or the day after

Aresco has no business running the nBE

CUSA has a terrible media deal from a coverage standpoint, especially for basketball. While many of the football games are broadcast on one of the obscure FOX regional affiliates there are very few games that would be considered "National Broadcasts" and most of those are on CBSSN.

Tulsa had 13 games on TV last year. Whats the matter with CBSCS. I love that channel. This year was the first year I even notices NBCSN.

Everyone gets that little obscure Fox regional.

I watch FoXSW more than any other channell. Big 12, CUSA, Mavs, and Rangers. Its the best station in Dallas.

Im not trying to bash the nBE or say CUSA is some great league but from a coverage point of view from the very limited info we know I think the CUSA deal looks better from a coverage point of view.

I dont get the Comcast stations on UVERSE or Direct TV.

The problem about those obscure FOX regional channels is that they are regional. There were plenty of times this past season where the weekly CUSA games was not available in the North Carolina area...Hell there were two occasions where ECU was playing on one of the FOX regional channels and the game was not available in North Carolina because they were showing an ACC game. ECU also had just about all of their games on TV but very few of them were true national games.

RE: Heard today...
Probably the best game I've ever been to (if not my favorite, since it was a loss) was on a Tuesday night. We had 52,000 in attendance. I have no problem with weeknight games.

That being said, I'd probably almost rather just go with the exposure gamble at this point if the money's all going to be so comparatively small. Provided NBC is willing to write OTA dates for conference matchups and that kind of stuff into the contract, I'd need ESPN to double the finances or equal the exposure to go with them.

Or I've already developed Stockholm Syndrome, whichever.

Interestingly, McMurphy indicated that ESPN already has the highest offer in terms of money, but the NBC offer was the nBE preferred offer due to exposure. So it's really about ESPN either providing more exposure or a dollar amount that's so much higher that the presidents aee not able to say no.

I would take the ESPN money. Unless the games are only on ESPN3 that would be a huge mistake. There isn't anything wrong with a weeknight football, ESPN U and Big East regional action on Saturdays which is probably the time slots open ESPN is offering up. Unless the money is marginal at best you take the biggest offer.

Besides ESPN runs the playoff, better chance they push a Big East team for the GO5 spot if they own their rights.
You sound like SDSU and Boise fans on the MWC board, Bearcat. Unfortunately, that conference seems to always be run by the mighty Wyoming Cowboys, Colorado State Rams and New Mexico Lobos, who want to avoid weekday football like the plague because they think it will be too cold at their place to ever play at night.

I don't get to this board much anymore but have to say the place has become really sad. Just like the MWC seems to be evolving into WAC 2.0, this conference seems to be determined to morph into CUSA 2.0.

Congrats to the big boy conferences for slowly but surely driving the rest of us out of the football biz.
