RE: NBR Navy having second thoughts about the Big East.
I've been waiting on this domino to fall. Whether Navy joins or stays independent (and I've been betting on independence), it will have an impact on C-USA. If Navy joins, Tulsa will likely be added and the Big East will stop at 12. C-USA adds one (my guess is WKU) and stays at 14. If Navy stays independent, your guess is as good as mine as to what the Big East will do. It will be stuck between wanting a championship game and the further dilution of its product, and the TV deal ramifications that come along with it.

I am thinking they will probably stay at 10 if Navy doesn't join. You see the Big 12 staying at 10, and I really don't think they want to grow. I think the growing for growing sake is over.

I think the leagues that are over 12 teams will realize that bigger isn't better. One example was this year the Big 12 had 9 of its 10 teams go to bowls, as where the SEC only had 8 of its 14 teams go to bowls, compared to most other years where they had 9 bowl teams out of 12. More teams but less bowls is not good. Bowls and their revenue are important, but what will probably hurt worse if close to half of the SEC teams didn't get the extra days of practice their fellow conference mates did. I think you will start to see more separation in mega conferences, where the same 3 or 4 teams are at the top and the same 3 or 4 or at the bottom, just more clearly defined vs in the past.

Remember though the thing that started all of this -

The SEC saw that there was a loophole so that they could play a championship game if they had 12 teams in the league.

Most moves since have been mostly due to trying to get to 12 teams or trying to stay at 12 or more teams.

The TV allure of a League Championship Game has been diluted by the new (as yet not formally adopted) format multiteam playoff to begin in 2014. Losing in a league playoff game diminishes the chances of that league getting more than one team in the playoff brackets. It is possible that leagues that now have a championship game may drop it when the TV contract is renewed under the new conditions if it may hurt them in the longer run. Those (BCS) conferences with 10 teams may be waiting a couple of years to see how the playoff format is finalized before going any further with expansion.
