Update on Highsmith

I wasn't at this game, but I'm told it was pretty darn good. Highsmith made the winning bucket and is averaging 30 ppg on the season.

I mentioned this before, he's a stud. You guys will be really happy with him.

Take a look at the pics. One of them shows the tip off. Highsmith is a solid 7-8 inches higher than the 6'8" Dugan.

I think the poster is referring to the Toledo thread that pertains to a coach having an inappropriate relationship with a student athlete(s).

RE: Update on Highsmith
Back to the purpose of the thread, I just hope this kid stays with us. Our basketball team isn't exactly putting out a good product to advertise right now. Hopefully MM picks it up when it comes to recruiting again as I don't like that kids committed and went the JUCO route instead.

He's certainly worthy of consideration.

However, I don't think he will win it. He plays in Southwest Michigan, which gets handicapped by the East side. Heck the greater Grand Rapids area barely gets any love from voters on the East side. And, there are a number of DI players in Michigan this year. Here is a preseason list of guys that were deemed potential winners in 2013.

I would be shocked if they didn't give it to James Young, even if his stats aren't as good.

So, you're telling me we have a recruit coming in who can improve our PPG? WONDERFUL!

He will. Keep in mind that JJ Cravatta averaged 27 ppg last year...7th best in Illinois HS history. Highsmith certainly seems like a great get for us.

Follow up article on the game.

Highsmith's quotes indicate he's completely on board at NIU and understanding of the youth movement right now.

Maybe, just maybe this program might be on the right track after all. We could certainly use some more Illinois grown kids on the team. It was just in worse shape than I even anticipated and will take a good amount of time. Perhaps the 4 point halftime effort was the bottom.

Well, to be completely honest...if I was drafting a team from scratch that was competing in the MAC, I'd take highsmith over Nadar. Why, because combo guards rule this league. You have to get good guard and wing play. A forward like Nadar is nice, but there are more than one of him out there. The teams that have won the MAC and gone dancing in recent years have all had really really good guard play. You can get away with a stiff or two in your front court that plays defense and rebounding. The big guys just need to be average, nothing special. The guards and wings on the other hand have to be able to shoot, score, penetrate and hopefully distribute. Highsmith can do all of the above.

Why? Half our team is from IL.

RE: Update on Highsmith
Is Highsmith going to be able to help with our current offense? Or is he going to be another guard throwing the ball back and forth on the perimeter with everyone else, until the shot clock runs down and they have to force up a shot?
