RE: Update on Highsmith
EA3, do you think Highsmith can play point guard at NIU? He is needed more at that spot than 2 guard.

RE: Update on Highsmith
Really? With his abilty to score and rebound would you rather not play him at 2 and hope one of the two current PGs improves enough to run with him. I think we want him scoring not rying to distribute and run an offense.

RE: Update on Highsmith
Huskiej, he can score from the pt guard position. I want a line-up of Highsmith, Nader, Bolin, Gray and Mader or Rakocevic at center. If, Highsmith is at 2 guard, either Bolin or Gray will not start. I also dont want Gray starting at center. Gray will be better when he is guarded and guarding a guy his size. I also believe, Balls and Baker are back-ups and not starters.

RE: Update on Highsmith
With, Highsmiths strength, I think he would be a Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Dywane Wade type of pt guard at our level.

The thing which is intriguing is that Highsmith will grow with what should be a veteran group of players, and on top of that , the MAC will be absolutely WIDE open next season. No clear preseason favorites. A window of opportunity is there for NIU through 2015.

Toledo will be the team to beat next year. The Rockets will be very very good.

NIU and Toledo could be the better teams in the MAC next season. The East takes a large large large drop next season.

RE: Update on Highsmith
I was recently traveling for work for guy in my office that went to Michigan State and as expected, he had nothing but high praise for Izzo and his coaching tree. All the guys that moved on under him to lead a program have been able to find success and presumably walked into a situation with more to work with. I have confidence our hoops program will become a winner soon under Montgomery. I am looking forward to seeing guys like Highsmith lead the charge. He seems like a legitimate pure scorer which is something we really need to compliment the existing group. We need another guy to pair with Nader to keep defenses honest.

I think he's a PG that gets labeled a potential SG because he scores so much.

If I was NIU, I'd throw him in at PG, let him rotate at the SG spot when his backup comes in, and run him 35 minutes per game.

It also depends on how the other players respond to him. If Highsmith makes everyone better when the ball is in his hands, he needs to run the point. If he scores at will but doesn't distribute as much as he could, then run him at the SG.
