RE: A wild new take on OCS/USFL
BBNF is "damn tootin'" about that ass-backwards state constitution, it's one of the most primitive documents in modern existence. Some of the stupidest laws I have ever heard about are there, from having an ice cream cone in your back pocket (WTF?) to interracial marraige (no one dares enforce that one around here, but it's still in the books) & possession of lottery tickets from other states (but the state can still tax you for any major winnings if you should hit the big jackpot, again, not enforced but still a part of the state law), it all goes to show just how oppressive and in the dark ages the state leadership is and will go to any and all lengths to keep Birmingham from enjoying any sort of true progress. And in regards to what was said, I've lived here most of my life and yes, I see it with each passing year.
Tyranny is alive and well. Leadership has no "direction" because they have no autonomy or real control. If that weren't true, Legion Field would have been reduced to dust and rubble over a decade ago.

RE: A wild new take on OCS/USFL
I have no special love for Legion Field as a structure while I do have a fondness for almost 6 decades of memories collected there of games played. From Bart Starr playing backup QB on Crimson Tide teams that lost 20 consecutive games over 3 seasons to the latest UAB games played last season, that is a lot of memories. I never LIKED spending half a quarter waiting in a crowded concession line for a diluted drink & a not-so-hot dog even back then. Those media writers never spoke of such things because they never had to endure them. They had caterers like Simonetti waiting on them to hand them fresh sandwiches and drinks (often of a kind NOT available at stadium concessions) at every opportunity. They NEVER had to miss a single play to wait in any line (except maybe for the restroom - there are some things one just has to do for yourself).
The main reason we still have Legion Field is that the people voted to not build any replacement for it. It remains the ONLY large capacity venue in this metro area. If the city can ever find a way to build a MPF with similar capacity, Legion Field will probably be doomed (or is that "Domed"?).

Wow. I hope for UAB and the USFL it happens.
58-56, what's the story in your sig pic? If you don't mind me asking.
The upper one references my candidacy for president of UAB (yes, I meet the pre-reqs to apply). I was not selected, but I think the committee did well in their choice.
The lower one is Elsheba Khan, an American mother, who happens to be Muslim, who lost her American son, who happened to be Muslim, in the service of her country. It is not a staged photo. I keep it there in opposition to some of the racist filth I see in other sig photos in the guise of "patriotism."
I knew what the top pic was, since I made it and informally nominated you, but have long wondered about the other. Thanks for sharing. I love that picture. It's deep.
