That should tell you everything you need to know about the low-ball nBE tv numbers being reported. The teams have a real good idea what the dollar amounts are going to be, and they seem to be ok with them. (So much so, that they are willing to take the second best deal just to snub ESPN.)

RE: Memphis approached by C7?
someone representing the C-7 schools approached somebody at Memphis to gauge if that school had interest in joining their league. (The answer, I was told, was a quick "no.")
Rumor has it....kinda glad to hear that

I would hope we would avoid teams like DePaul like we would avoid a raging case of herpes. I was hoping to get away from Rice-like teams.

Not sure I go along with the last line. Nobody is going to make a financial decision to "spite" anyone.

RE: Memphis approached by C7?
I haven't heard anything about a C7 inquiry to us, but I think it's feasible, b/c I was told we received an Olympic sports invite to the BE before we finally got a full invite. And we turned that down, so it makes sense we would turn down a C7 invite. So did UC and UConn, at least, if not more teams. It just does too much damage to football to make FB indy or park it in the MAC or Sunbelt. Even if the money was a little better.

Aresco reportedly said this last week. He is trying to convince some of the presidents to stay with ESPN, even in a partial role, because some of them would rather take the second best deal than the deal that ESPN is offering.

Accepting a C7 invite would be the dumbest thing we could do for so many reasons --- football being by far the biggest but the big question is why the C7 is looking outside the A10 now.

Could be that the tv contract money wasnt there for the C7+A10 members, and that the high numbers being floated was for the inclusion of 5-7 additional teams like Memphis, Cinci, and Uconn.

This invite (if true) makes me think we'd be part of any 'scheduling agreement' the Big East would have with the C7. If that's the case it just *might* be the best of both worlds for Memphis.

Especially if the also included contingency $$$$$ similar to what Boise State was offered to join the Big East COGS04-cheersCOGS

They might think we are a more viable target in the short run. A-10 members would have to pay an exit fee for leaving early, which they would be expected to do in order to make the C-7 viable for 2014. The C-7 probably have the votes to eliminate that for us.

RE: Memphis approached by C7?
What might be a great tv idea with the MSG would be to have the nBE and C7 hold their tournaments simultaneously at the garden. Each conference's title game and auto-bid would be played on Saturday. Then you'd have the deathmatch between the nBE and C7 champion on Sunday. The committee has pretty much said that a team cant lose their #1 seed during the conference championship, so it shouldnt knock anyone down by playing this extra game. It could be worth a lot of money though.

I would rather go with the C7 and be in a strong basketball conference. The nBE is CUSA 3.0 and weak in fb and bb. From what has been reported the C7 will get a higher tv payout too.

The Big East in 2014-15 (as it stands) isn't what I'd call "weak in basketball". UConn, Memphis, Cincinnati, and Temple prevent that ---

And do what with football? We already turned down a BB invite to the BE back when they still had everybody, so why would we do it now with just the C7?

So --- it still means that the C7 has an interest in Memphis -- which has it's own implications (mentioned one of those in a post above) -
