RE: Seth Davis ballot
whatever, we'll be close. we'll just have to win both or games this week. If we lose before we break into the polls we probably won't get close to the top 25 again this year

TCU should be considered. They beat Kansas, after all.
I mean a GREAT win makes up for losses (lots of losses).

37 UCLA
4 New Mexico (home game)
172 Morehead State
26 San Diego State
44 Creighton
199 S. Illinois
114 Illinois State
151 Drake
But since they beat Miami, they should be ahead of us.
This sport to the voters is a whole bunch of, "What have you done for me lately?"
Then it's a bunch of bias. Take Kansas for example, CBS Top 25 and One has them moving down to 10. After three losses, all to unranked teams, they move down to 10th. That's just how it is. Miami is the hottest team in America right now and that's what the Indiana State supporters all are gonna hang their hat on. You can't talk about them without mentioning that win, and that's what they do.
We should remember that the sports media, with few exceptions, are entertainers. They do not have the inclination or ability for thorough and laborious research and analysis and their insular world subjects them to hermetic Groupthink.
My thoughts exactly...

Really?
The two teams they beat though were #1 Indiana and a team (Minnesota) that was top 10 at a point last month but just got caught up in the Big Ten which is THE BEST CONFERENCE IN BASKETBALL.

Seth Davis not ranking Memphis, but placing Akron at #21 tells me everything I need to know about how he views Memphis and Conference USA.

Surely Seth Davis isn't dull enough to think the MAC is better than CUSA. He should be ripped apart for his 18-25. It makes no sense to put Akron 21, Indiana St 25, or even UK 19. I'd be willing to be almost all of his 18-25 will be on the extreme side of rankings this week. He's a hack. All he knows is Duke and he just throws darts at everything else.

RPI-wise the Mid-American conference is 17th. CUSA is 11th. 7 of the 12 teams in the Mid-American have losing records. So you really can't say that you can't rank Memphis because they haven't beaten anyone and then go ahead and rank Akron because of their winning streak.
I wonder if Seth Davis hadn't seen us play in the Bahamas if his voting would be any different.

And surely he can't be looking at margin of victory with some of these games from Akron:
+4 at home vs. Buffalo (9-15)
+7 at home vs. Ball State (9-13)
+4 @ Miami-Ohio (8-14)
54 RPI, 54 Kenpom, 56 Sagarin.

Wait, Seth Davis doesn't know what he's talking about and is discrediting everything we've done this season??? Yep, seems about right. All IS right with the world this morning. When he starts pulling for us, that's when I'll be the most scared.

Yeah, he picked against us all year in 2008 until the Championship game.

Plain and simple, here is the reasoning for the beef against us. These media hacks work for companies(Espn, cbs, etc...) that sponsor and have tv contracts with the "Power 6" conferences. They do not want a program that is not from one of those conferences to ever become "big time" because the attention would go to that program and away from the teams in the conferences that they sponsor. Now the reason they can rank and talk about teams like Akron, Creighton, Illinois State, etc is because they know they don't have to worry about these programs sticking around long enough to be considered a "big program." With Memphis, we are always there. We are not a program that comes and goes. We are here and are not going anywhere. So the media from these companies have to try everything they can to stray attention away from us. They say conference usa is just awful and that memphis does not deserve to be ranked because they beat teams from conf. usa, yet akron plays in a conference ranked 7 or 8 spots lower than conf. usa and they are ranked. But they will say Memphis has not beaten anybody. Gonzaga and us have the same problem with these hacks. When either of us is dominant, they have to rank us and give attention. If they did not, then people would start to see that something is up. But when us or Gonzaga is just good instead of great, then we get no attention or ranking or nothing.

You're kidding, right? All of these guys had us in the top15-ish in preseason polls the past 2 years. We responded both years by quickly losing to all of the top 25 teams we faced, thus dropping out of the rankings.
If they were really biased against us, would they have ranked us in the preseason?
