Per ESPN: NBC Offers Big East TV Deal...
Worth only $23M, or $2M per team if we have 12 teams.

Not good.

Sometimes something is so pathetic all you can do is laugh. 03-lmfao

If UC doesn't get out of the Big East, all of its athletic programs are dead. There is simply no way to support high level football or basketball on that kind of media revenue.

Effing pathetic. It is a sad disgrace what has happened to this conference.

Gotta just keep waiting and hoping Santa and Whit deliver.

Don't believe the numbers. No way a conference that plays football and basketball earns less than the C7.

If this is the true total value of the conference then UC and UConn could be out the door to either the C7 or somewhere else, please considered the source.

I don't know why you'd find it that difficult to believe. The C7 is going to have some great basketball programs and markets after they get to 10-12 teams.

The Big East will have Cincinnati, UConn, USF and...filler.

If the number is that low for TOTAL contract Cincinnati and UConn are not staying around. That could be the bid for part of the rights or a number ESPN is using to drive down the price of the leagu.e

The 2 million number does not make sense. For basketball we will have Cincy, UConn, Memphis, Temple. Who do they have after Xavier and Georgetown. Providence, villanova, Depaul. At best we are a push in basketball and we play football. I cannot see our contract come in less than the C7.

Might be a low-ball offer, that's a typical negotiation tactic... not that I think the nBE is great but why jump out front with a huge offer?

At some point in the process Cincinnati needs to look for themselves and protect the basketball program and sell their football team to the best conference out there. Any contract less than 6 million per school is a failure.

Bearcat fans should be very angry if the TV deal earns no more than a million or two more than the C7. Equal to or less than that group, this fan base should be in meltdown mode.

The implications could be devastating if the numbers are true. You can kiss Tubberville goodbye in 1-2 years, and possibly Mick to. That revenue simply isn't anywhere close to what is needed to compete at a high level. Hell it's less than what we get now and it's already a struggle.

If a deal like this is signed and we don't end up in another conference I wouldn't blame either of them for saying screw it and bailing out.

I don't think Tuberville is going to have a lot of options that are better than Cincinnati, to be honest. He's rapidly approaching 60, and most high-level programs are going to immediately disqualify him as a candidate for that reason alone.

Don't jump off a bridge just yet, this deal is just for basketball. Football will be at least double this offer which would put us in the around 7 million annually which isn't terrible.

I wish this was true. I would love have an article or source confirm this was a basketball deal. That changes things big time. 6 to 7 million is enough to keep us in the conversation as a major program.

Based on the context of the article it sounds like it is for basketball only but it is not clear. There is no way 23 million is for the Big East's entire media package, that would make no sense.

Quote:The Big East is trying to nail down its new television contract; the league has one for football in this coming season with ESPN, but there is none for men’s basketball. NBC Sports is aggressively seeking a deal, ESPN.com reported.

I just assume that's the case, but I won't be surprised if the Big East gets much less for football during the next round of negotiations.
