RE: Some BE TV deal insights
I think that when is all said and done a 4-6 million deal is probably te most likely outcome. I just like everyone else on this board just wants to get it done and move forward.

For too long the Big East tried to keep the football and nonfootball members together, that led to two completely different ideas on how to move forward. You coudnt offer anybody west an all sports invite as long as the C7 where on board. Once UL,Rutgers and ND made their move and UC and UConn flirted with ACC it made it much more difficult to ask schools out west to commit to league.
I think things have stabilized somewhat, yes we coud still lose some schools if ACC gets raided, but you can now try to sell your tv contract of 10 all sports members. The C7 has an advantage in working their tv contract because they will not be affected by ACC raids, so tv dels are assured of what they are getting, with the BE 10 that's not the case and that has hurt Aresco in getting a firm deal.
But the ACC just invited their first even non-football member Notre Dame to join their conf...so if the ACC losing a school or two (or more) in the future...and if ND stays as an Olympic Sports Member in the ACC, I wouldn't be surprised to see the ACC invite other non-football members in the future.
ACC already has kicked down that door (non-football invite)...so its certainly not out of the relm of possibilities to see them invite say Georgetown or a Villanova or a St Johns in the coming years from a market grab perspective in DC, Philly & NYC (especially after losing Maryland to the Big Ten).
I would probably put Georgetown at the top of ACC's most "desirable" from the C7 group.
Nope. ND is one of a kind.
Clearly any all sports league that takes ND as a member without football is positioning itself for the time when ND is forced to join a league for all sports. They are not positioning themselves to become a full fledged hybrid.
I expect that the ACC sees ND as a temporary situation. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the ND administration sees it that way too.
I agree, except I would call ND one out of "two of a kind". The ACC would agree to the same set-up with Texas as well. Other than that, I don't see anyone else getting a partial membership.

Just curious if you read the bottom half of the article where it outlined the situation that CBSsports and/or Fox was in where they had a ton more inventory than they could possibly televise. That's why we don't get as many games on TV as we could in our current situation. I realize that the SPEED replacement will offer more air time, I'm just not sure how much of it is really available for us. I don't mean that as a negative slant, but just another point to consider.
FWIW, I was reading that article and kept getting more and more encouraged as I read it because it seemed very well balanced for a national article. Then I saw it by a UCF centered writer.
Normally i'd agree with you, but Marc Daniels is a pretty fair and balanced journalist. Even if he is the "Voice of the Knights", he usually tells a story from both sides of the fence. Not like that hack at the Orlando Sentinel, Mike Bianchi. I hate that guy. He's a salaried troll, and that's about it.
No knocks or sarcasm here, but he did just "guess" that the deal will be between $5-6M. He didn't say that he got the info from sources or tv executives. I'm sure he does a decent job for UCF but there isn't anything he wrote about the contract numbers that has teeth behind it. And that's coming from someone who wants a good TV deal for the Big East.
Honestly? I don't know his sources. But I went back and read his "weekend notes and quotes" article, which is referenced on page 1. He specifically states that 5-6 million a year is the current "guess". So, even if he heard it from a solid source, he might not be able to speak to it yet. But having listened to Marc Daniel's radio show for quite awhile, if he typically caveats something as a "guess", that is probably what it is. But to be fair, he does call it a "guess".
