RE: Memphis @ Southern Miss
I feel much better about the conference tournament because we will have more of a home court advantage than even Tulsa. Of equal importance is that no other team will travel as well as we do so the crowd should not affect us like a true road game would.

You left off ", Part 46"...

This discussion has been going on for several years, but has largely been contained to the Memphis board. There is a group of fans who feel Pastner is desecrating the Memphis "brand" and needs to be fired in favor of someone like Bruce Pearl, or Shaka Smart, or whatever flavor of the month they come up with. Theh criticize everything, constantly talk down accomplishments and wins, and basically are just uber-pissed every Memphis team isn't the 2008 team.

It's killing legitimate discussion on the Memphis board, because it devolves into Pastner-haters and Pastner-defenders, and never the tween shall meet.

Great news! I hear Ellis Johnson is considering giving bball a shot! Hire him!

The whole city would burn to the ground once he started 0-12. Riots seriously wouldn't surprise me.

Imagine the losses Johnson could rack up in basketball! 30+

Better yet, he could coach baseball where 40+ losses are easily obtainable!

True, but both teams would be 8-1 if USM wins and we would have the tiebreaker.

Tiebreakers only work at the end of the year. No such thing as a tiebreaker in the middle of the season.

Doh! A tiebreaker is valid any time a tie needs to be broken.

I'll be there. Ideas for a good pregame meal?

Glory Bound Gyro Co. (Formerly known as Old Athens Grill) is near RGC and is damn fine Greek food

Greek for is for losers. Go by 'The End Zone', a USM/CUSA/college friendly bar/grill, right down the road from the bball arena......best damn burgers in Hattiesburg. Also got awesome gravy cheese fries....great selection of beer. Their nachos are fracking amazing...you won't be able to finish it. Here's a pic of the Endzone Ribey and gravy fries. MAN-FOOD!

Talk about greasy! Disgusting.

Evidently Goodwin was cleared to play this morning, so it's back to USM VS Memphis with both a full strength.

It should be a great game to watch or attend.

Hope for a well played game where the officials don't get involved in the decision, no one gets hurt, and the best team that day wins.

With a packed Reed Green, this will be just like UAB road game. Either way, both teams should benefit in the long run from playing in front of a packed arena against a relatively high RPI opponent.

Maybe not. Mike Craig sprained his ankle pretty badly in the UCF game. His absence in the second half didn't help our cause. I'm hoping that he will be able to play effectively Saturday.

I am looking forward to the game, although I realize a defeat is very possible. IMO, the Tigers will be focused and USM will get our best effort.

based on the way, Memphis fans talk about USM you'd think we are some SWAC school or something. Good grief, at some of the comments about USM and Hattiesburg on MT.org.

A win by Memphis gives us a two-game lead over you in the conference standings and give you a second straight loss.

It's a very important game for both, to be honest.

Good for you. I'm not a fat tuba player either which I think is what you are insinuating.

Logic and reason can be your friend if you would just allow it.

Amazing isn't it? Our biggest win this year is probably against Ohio.

Both Memphis and Southern Miss are lacking in quality wins if you go by the RPI. That is why this game is so big for both teams.

There is indeed an element that has an elitist mentality over there that's never recognized CUSA as a legitimate basketball conference, regardless of the opponent. Many are recent converts that believe that the Cal years are the norm. Those that have been through the good years and the lean years have a more balanced view and see this game for what it really is.

No one who understands the peaks and valleys of conferences, programs, etc can look at the Golden Eagles' performance this year and honestly think this isn't going to be a dogfight. FWIW, I believe that our last road loss was at Reed Green and that alone should open eyes.

This game is taking on the feel of a conference championship tournament game, as will the return game here. Additionally, we've still got UTEP and while UAB is down, that game is always an emotion charged trap waiting to be sprung.

I've thought that our lack of size would catch up to us sooner or later. I'm starting to think that's about to happen.

You can only play with a team of 6'6" guys and shorter for so long and have sustained success.
