Kudos to whomever texted in to the Score this morning
During Mully and Hanley this morning they were discussing Signing Day and what each class looks like.

During the normal B10 pandering with special effort to NU, bc they are sponsors, Mully and Hanley mentioned that texters were asking about NIU's recruitment class.

This caught the analyst off guard, but he was still able to discuss the class and where they would sit in the MAC coming off the Orange Bowl and with a new coach.

THE TAKEAWAY: The idea that anytime college football is discussed on the radio, if NIU is not included in the conversation, text/call in with a question that ties NIU to the topic. I would think this board should be able to virally market NIU more than anyone else could.

M&H had Tom Lemming on this morning...it's funny, I was in my car waiting for them to address NIU, after a few minutes I made the move to head into the office and luckily caught the second half of Lemming's reaction to NIU...I think HuskieWire talked to him as well and posted his response, but he basically said they did well for a season in which they lost their head coach and as usual they are great at pulling from the Chicago ranks....

Agreed on hitting the score with NIU conversation, Laurence Holmes did a great job repping NIU this year as well...

Holmes has done a great job promoting NIU. He even has claimed NIU as "his team" since as a DePaul alum, he didn't have a football team.

I know he is close with Harnish and growing close with Lynch, which is good for business for us.

Agree. Holmes is definitely a boost to our marketing. All he has to do is not be dismissive of NIU to be better than most.

I know one of my friends texted in to ask Lemming about NIU. I'm sure others did as well. Good stuff.

Pat Fitzgerald was interviewed on M&H this morning. I sent in a text asking when NU and NIU were going to play again. They asked the question. Did anyone else text in?

I did! That game would be great to have at Wrigley given how many grads live right in the area

Fitzgerald's recruiting class has been getting huge publicity on TV, several radio stations, and in the papers. I saw nothing about us on TV or heard anything on the radio. I do not listen to the Score, so I don't know if we got huge coverage there (though I highly doubt it).

Your assumptions are correct...we got some coverage from good old Fred Mitchell in the Trib, but I suppose saying U of I Got the #44, Nortwestern got the number #56 and NIU got the #99 doesn't have the greatest ring to it for us anyways....(rankings roughly estimated)

YES! Great idea!

Our local Peoria Urinal Star sports section did not have one word about NIU;s recruits. Whole damn paper was about area players who idiotically went for the Illness. WHY would you want to go play on a LOSING team? 01-wingedeagle

Barry Rozner mentioned the texts and ID'd himself as an NIU Huskie and asked about NU and NIU playing.

Fitz congratulated NIU on their succesful season but couldn't speak to scheduling as all future scheduling is "on hold" in the BIG as they sort through new members.

Not much he could say there as no matter what you think, scheduling is very complicated especially with the conference "musical chairs."

I found the entire interview with Fitz interesting especially with regards to recruiting and "knowing" the kids. Mentioned how he's not a "big fan" of some of the signing day hoopla. (I've got 3 hats, come watch which one I pick etc....) NU's philosophies are very similar to NIU's.

If he wants to, I think Fitz will be there 20 years from now. Love to see them win a BIG Championship.
