Bracketology 2013
Looks like UC's seed will get a decent amount of attention down the stretch here. New ESPN/Lunardi bracketology gives us a 4 seed (#14 S-curve rank) along with New Mexico, Butler and Marquette.

For the curious, he has 7 Big East teams in plus 'Nova in the first 4 out and SJU in the next 4 out. In all he has 23 bubble teams competing for 7 spots with XU at the very bottom on that list as a bubble team.

Do you have a link for that or is that ESPN Insider?

UC has the ability to lose at anytime but if they beat the teams I think they should I could see a 3 seed for UC. We'll see what happens.

Thank you. Clicking on the teams brings up their tourney resume which is what I was really looking for.

The latest update (today Feb. 3) is from an article called "Bracket Math" which is Insider so I didn't link it. But there is also a free version of bracketology which franzeal linked to that isn't updated as often.

Joe Lunardi tweeted yesterday that he had us 14th on his ballot (not to be confused with where he has us projected in Bracketology).

Lot of hoops to go folks...and frankly with this team we could move that needle either way. Lets hope we keep winning.

Lunardi's bracketology has UC with a 9 seed as of today. (Bilas' power rating yesterday has us at #32 btw.)

NO 8 or 9, would rather have an 11 seed. Play 6, then 3 and then 2.

Even that 9 seed? He's got us lined up against Gonzaga should we win in the first [second] round.

Maybe Chuck can break his streak for not getting kicked out of a game if they play Gonzaga.

Doesn't matter, Gonzaga would kick our ass. They have a real 7' center who can play. Kelly Olynyk.

Wouldn't fret over seeding at this point. Hoping for an 11 because we can play a 3? Does anyone believe we are going to beat an 8-9 seed at this point? This team just needs to make the tournament. Anything past that is gravy.

Every time I see a player like that playing for a mid-major, I ask myself what Mick did to recruit him. I see tons of guys playing for mid- majors who are better than what we've got, Cash and SK excepted, and I can't believe that a few of them wouldn't have loved to have a shot at playing in the BE.

I realize this is a special case, but 341 out of 342 D1 schools whiffed on Olynyk. He's a Tim Duncan type recruitment story. Kid with no tape but had size from a little village in British Columbia. For every one player like him there are literally hundreds that don't pan out.

Yeah, I know it's not fair to pick out a single mid-major game-changer and ask rhetorically why didn't Mick recruit him. On the other hand, it's plenty fair to ask why we've got about eight players who'd have trouble getting significant minutes for X, UD, or even Miami. After you get past the best 2 or 3 players on each of Mick's teams, there is a huge drop in the quality of the players. You can't help but think "why didn't Mick just pick off some decent players whose best offer would otherwise have been an A10 school."

I feel ya, I really do but it's really not that simple. It is frustrating watching some of the guys we've run out there over the years but recruiting is a lot more complex than 'wow that guy is pretty good and didn't have many offers Mick should have got him'. There is a reason some of these players don't have many offers and it's usually because they didn't show enough skills in high school. It's also easier to develop your game in leagues like the MAC and WAC and other leagues like that because you play against very medicore talent night in and night out so you can gain confidence and learn a few things that you couldn't against the likes of Chane Behannan and Cleveland Melvin and the athletic freaks Syracuse throw out there every year.

RE: Bracketology 2013
As someone that has lived in Spokane, and now Seattle, I think it's SO ludicrous to try to paint Mick as asleep at the wheel on Olynyk. Um, BC is the province RIGHT ABOVE Washington state. If anything, Lorenzo Romar should be drawing the heat-but who could have ever seen his transformation? This is a kid that used his redshirt year to totally transform his body and game to a high level D! program. Kelly worked hard to make himself what he is today. This is from a recent USA Today article about him: Olynyk chose Gonzaga because of its coaching staff and the program's strong tradition. His family also liked that he would remain on the west coast, so they could visit him or he could make the six-hour drive home rather easily.

I will say, I am so frustrated at our lack of height inside, when I see Gonzaga with 2 7 footers and 2 legitimate 2's, and 3 point snipers to make them even more lethal. I hate it, but I think they have actually become more of a desirable place to play basketball than UC-not that we are competing head to head for the same players. Few just continues to reload. They go to the NBA. They improve under his watch. I wish I could say the same about Mick.

RE: Bracketology 2013
Interesting insight on Gonzaga. Hard to imagine--they'll likely be the new #1 in the polls at least. Few has done a fine job but they haven't proved much in the postseason so I'll remain skeptical about their ability to advance very far next month. Anyone notice the Memphis "resume" graphic on their game with X last night? Quality wins: Southern Miss...and that was it. They've got to be kidding. All of Memphis' good opponents (UL, VCU and I believe Minnesota) were losses. Memphis has some talent but they weren't impressive last night.
