Just need a point guard...Guyn? Caupain? JDIII? Johnson? Can we clone Cash? Hell, Kilpatrick? Anyone???

We are stacked at the 2-5 position next season, I'm positively giddy at the thought of Rubles, Lawrence, and Jackson playing together...that is a lot of alley-oops. 04-jawdrop

I hadn't allowed myself to watch the highlight videos until today. Effortless athleticism and everything else you would expect from a top 20 kid. There are so many different lineups Mick will be able to run out next year it's making my head spin. Also, I'm happy that Mick got a commit from a top player. Dave Telep was pointing out on twitter last night that UC came a close second for Burke and Kemba, feels good to win one of those.

Bearcats need a good recruiting class with instant impact type players because our last two classes have been mostly role player type guys that help fillneeds and add experience when they are juniors and seniors. You need a mix of stars and glue guys to win with the style Mick plays.

Agreed, I hope Jermaine Lawrence is a sign of more instant impact players in the future. Hopefully an elite caliber PG 03-cloud9

How about point forward? Best way to beat pressure is to see and throw over the top of it. Lawrence appears to handle the ball pretty well. Maybe Cats won't have a traditional PG next year like Cash but will have 5 guys capable of beating pressure by throwing over the top. MOre up tempo on offense and even longer on defense than this years team.

Im hoping either Caupain will emerge or JDIII will be pg...either or

Obviously JDIII has big game experience so that seems natural fit but who knows. Glad he is redshirting!

RE: Jermaine Lawrence Commits!
here is a quote I pulled from Zag:

"Said longtime New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski: “He brings to [Cincinnati] a guy who has a limitless ceiling potential-wise. He covers the court like a blanket. He has great athletic ability. He can step out and shoot the 3. And he obviously needs to get stronger. And what Mick Cronin brings to him is a passion for the game. He’ll be playing for a guy that will drive him. He’s a terrific kid, but right now he’s very passive. He’s as nice of a person on the court as he is off, which is a sure formula for failure. I don’t think he realizes how good he can be and how hard he has to work to reach that level."

I wouldn't be the least be surprised if Savino landed a head coaching gig next season. Few coaches deserve it more.

RE: Jermaine Lawrence Commits!
great news. We needed this guy. Be interesting who has to leave but wouldnt surprise me if SK left since he'll have his degree already after this season.
I'm hoping Strickland stays healthy also. He has a lot of upside to his game also. We needed this recruiting news. Anxious already to see them all here.

Wow, just wow. We needed a recruit like this. And mick landed him. Between Whit signing Tubbs and Mick landing Lawrence, UC tells the world..."we ain't dead...hottest college in America!! Believe that!"

This is just awesome news.

I believe that SK would be better served to stay for his last year. He still needs to continue improving his ball handling and to improve his shooting even more. A strong run in the tournament would really add to his resume. Hope he stays but he'll probably have his degree this spring and might want to start making money but not sure he's a definite to be drafted in first 2 rounds. A lot depends on what european players are on the draft list and also how many other underclassmen.
Hopes SK stays for his last season and improves his game and lets him work towards a 2nd degree or a Masters.

With Lawrence on board, it will take pressure off of S K. He'd be stupid to leave as UC probably has more weapons next season. Right now it's pretty much S K and Cash. Parker seems to have disappeared and Rubles isn't shooting that much either. Lawrence brings a matchup problem. I think he really opens things up next season.

RE: Jermaine Lawrence Commits!
Telep's article and the reason I hope Savino gets a giant raise.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recrui...rcats-2013

The Cincinnati Bearcats received a commitment on Sunday from their No. 1 recruiting target, ESPN 100 power forward Jermaine Lawrence of Springfield Gardens, N.Y.

Ranked the No. 19 overall prospect in the Class of 2013 by ESPN, Lawrence pledged to Mick Cronin's team over St. John's and will move the Bearcats to No. 24 in the ESPN class rankings. UNLV was also in the mix for Lawrence.

From the start of last year's spring recruiting period, Lawrence had been the top target overall for the Bearcats. Despite being sidelined with a wrist injury that would later require surgery, Cronin and his staff remained committed to Lawrence. They realized it was an all-or-nothing situation with the power forward and that the backup plans were not plentiful.

Lawrence saw exactly what Cincinnati thought of him.

"When they started coming to my school, they made me feel like they really wanted me," Lawrence said. "I was definitely their guy."

In late July last summer, it became apparent Lawrence's injury was more serious than previously thought. At the Elite 24 showcase in August, Lawrence attended but did not play. He would later have surgery on his right wrist and didn't return to action for Pope John XXIII High School until last month.

During his recovery process, Lawrence continued to debate the merits of St. John's, Cincinnati and UNLV. The Rebels had former AAU teammate Savon Goodman on the roster and were a factor. But in the end, it was down to Cronin's Bearcats against Steve Lavin's Red Storm.

"It was back and forth," Lawrence said. "It was hard to make a decision. St. John's is my hometown school."

Regardless, Cincinnati has done well with NYC talent. Former Bearcats players Kenny Satterfield and Lance Stephenson, both McDonald's All-Americans, were from New York.

"New York City players have gone there and then been comfortable," Lawrence said. "I started thinking, Why can't I be comfortable there?"

Lawrence becomes the top-rated recruit in a Cincinnati 2013 recruiting class that also features point guard Kevin Johnson (Cincinnati/Summit Country Day), shooting guard Troy Caupain (Midlothian, Va./Cosby), small forward DeShaun Morman (Washington, D.C./Faith Baptist Christian) and center Jamaree Strickland (Oakland, Calif./Queen City Prep).
