RE: "Memphis Fans Shaking In Their Boots" - Ark Fans
I haven't said one thing negative about the Tigers. Arkansas has advantages over Memphis in some areas as where Memphis does others. Fayetteville High can produce some basketball talent. I remember losing Nicky Bradford to Kansas out of here. Arkansas has a population issue but as shown in the past, it can pull from Memphis, Kansas City, Dallas, Tulsa, Birmingham and others frequently. Arkansas consistantly had top 25 classes under Heath and Pelphery. They didn't play well for Stanley and the redhead's fell apart once on campus.

Arkansas has two advantages over Memphis. Money and $EC.

You mention Fayetteville High...

Memphis has Ridgeway, BTW, East, White Station, Hamilton, Melrose, and many others. Each of those schools has had at least one McDonald's All-Americans in basketball and Memphis usually has at least one per year.

How are you gonna drop Fayetteville High like that? 03-lmfao

Arkansas does have the ability to beat a ranked team from time to time. Woops.

Too bad they don't have the ability to win a road game or more than 1 NCAA tourney game every 15 years.

Get a few home games in the NIT and Nolan Jr might get the Hogs to MSG.

Seems someone is still living on the exploits of a man several years removed from the scene that mysteriously vanished from the record books. I want Memphis to succeed nearly as much as Arkansas. Love to see that match up in the NCAAs

But this was fun tonite:

We can't beat a ranked team or win even one game in the tourney.

How ironic. "living on the exploits of a man several years removed from the scene" says the fan of a basketball program thats been dead for nearly 20 years and brought back an asst from the last successful staff they had trying to rekindle the excitement.

I think what I'm trying to get across is that be careful of dissin' the past when you may need it one day. You build tradition on your past, it also lets you know that there's always hope for the future. All programs ebb and flow. Some can go into extended drought like Arkansas. But....the foundation is there, the past is what laid it. What happens to Memphis if Cal wasn't canned by New Jersey? Arkansas' programs lost years lie in a simple tale. When Nolan finally let Frank get the best of him, Frank had coach at Illinois all lined up. A Chancellor wanted to neuter the Ruler of Arkansas and protect the University from Nolan's racial claims in court. So Nolan wasn't replaced by Bill Self and we got Stan Heath instead and so the dark years began. Be careful when you pee on the past, one day it'll be what you use to rise up from. Is Pastner the Tiger's Heath? Jury is out on that still. Recruiting is one thing, the court is another. Look at how the conference is dissed on the Dockery Finch page and fight for respect that Memphis is in. How's the next search going to go if it comes to that? What will Memphis be selling? The past.

That's bs and you know it. Because of a fear of a racial discrimination lawsuit, you went from Bill Self (who was at a major BcS basketball school to a novice coach who had a great run in the NCAAs? Why wouldn't Arkansas move from Bill Self to Kelvin Sampson, or hell, Tubby Smith?

Weird that your big hire was a guy who had a run in his first year as a coach.

Quote:Is Pastner the Tiger's Heath? Jury is out on that still.

No. Heath has won games in the NCAA tournament and at least ran a program for a year before going to Arkansas.

How is money, an NBA arena in an NBA city, and a fertile recruiting base selling the past?

Self absolutely wanted the job. Frank wanted that as well. It's the Sutton coaching tree. Self is from just across the border from Arkansas. Frank White wanted a dog and pony interview process, Only up and coming coaches do that nonsense. With hiring a black coach seen as a PC thing to do, Heath was the hotness there. This is the same John White that ran off Gary Blair because we needed a lesbian women basketball coach in his opinion and get one from MTSU. The stupidity of John White knew no bounds.

Arkansas has plenty of money, way more than Memphis. Has it's own arena that's on campus. Paid for BTW. Arkansas was recruiting nationally long before Memphis thought about it. Klien and Darrell Walker come to mind. Arkansas is going to completely revamp it's own arena very soon and will be just as nice as a shared arena with a NBA. It's already better than most and we are the Pro team for the state which is equal to Memphis' media footprint. In the past week Arkansas has appeared on ESPN twice and won. We have and will continue to have greater visibility nationally. It is what it is.

That was a good win. Now, let's see the Hogs beat someone, anyone outside the state of Arkansas (1-16 outside Arkansas under Mike Anderson). That would be another good accomplishment.

as long as Arkansas fans are not bitter towards Memphis....that's the main thing....

So Self would have left a team he ended up taking to the Elite Eight at the one big state university athletic program that is in the B10 for a program in turmoil that got bad press following the the dirty divorce that was the dismissal of a hall of fame coach in a state with no recruiting base just because he is from Oklahoma? So why didn't Arkansas get Self from Kansas when you fired Heath, since that stuff is so important to him?

Who are these people? I don't care about Arkansas. I guess you meant Frank Broyles.

Stan Heath was the hot name, but he still only had one year of HC experience. Given you have a redux of the Larry Finch dismissal, you'd have thought Arkansas would have avoided the process we went through... Especially since Nolan Richardson prophesied it.

Quote:Arkansas has plenty of money, way more than Memphis.

Never disputed that. But Memphis has basketball money to spend. So Memphis can be competitive against any $EC school when it comes to basketball spending... Including Kentucky.

Quote:Has it's own arena that's on campus. Paid for BTW.

Are you comparing a barn to a penthouse?

Do you honestly think a kid would rather play in Bud Walmart over one of the BEST NBA ARENAs NEXT TO BEALE ST?

Quote:Arkansas was recruiting nationally long before Memphis thought about it. Klien and Darrell Walker come to mind.

Darn. I guess we'll just have to rely on the Larry Finches, Keith Lees 03-nutkick, Anfernee Hardaways, and Lorenzen Wrights that sprout up with regularity in Memphis.

Quote:Arkansas is going to completely revamp it's own arena very soon and will be just as nice as a shared arena with a NBA.

No it won't.

Quote:It's already better than most and we are the Pro team for the state which is equal to Memphis' media footprint.

You are not the pro team for the state because you are paying players. Your basketball team is still number 3 on your campus.

Quote:In the past week Arkansas has appeared on ESPN twice and won. We have and will continue to have greater visibility nationally. It is what it is.

So thank the winning football teams in the $EC for getting ESPN to put crappy $EC basketball teams on their network.

We did have a dark period....it was called the Tic Price era.

The Hogs still owe us a football game but it will never happen.

But cheer up Arky fans, you'll probably get a few home NIT games and maybe get to NYC. However, since Madison Square Garden isnt located in the state of Arkansas, any game you play there will be an automatic L.

I hope Nolan shows up in the crowd for the 1st round NIT wearing one of those silly plastic hog hats.

sounds like a litany of screw ups to me and the program continues its' journey in the wilderness.

Anderson has his work cut out for him.
