It would be nice to hear a little more optimism here.

I agree BC. The negativity can be overwhelming at times.

Spend time on any board where they are not winning championships and it his even worse than this... especially the entitled lower bcs schools that frequently change coaches.

This place is unique because so many of us have been around various Wmu boards and have known each other for years. We have been "rowing the boat" in circles for years around here. We have not had a major sport coach let go where there were differences in opinion inn the fire in the internet era. This his sort off a first for us.

Interesting that the football 'alums' have such a strong position about Fleck considering their history of winning seasons and successful bowl games. Jeezuz people...give the man a chance.

Their opinion of the "ROW THE BOAT" slogan and actually the whole hiring of coach Fleck was less than stellar. He better win and win early because many of the Bronco Football Alums arent overly impressed.

The fact that Familiarity breeds contempt; coupled with a dwindling gene pool might be reasons for the dysfunction witnessed here. Ad hoc groups generally have a limited shelf life. But there can be levels of comfort even in a dysfunctional group. It's a game isn't it. Posturing and role playing make forums tribal. Emotional outlets that allow the game to go on. Occasional great humor and Bronco observations but not enough to make these forums last. I predict this forum will cease to exist in its present form longer than 14 months.

You'd think that with such a high level of dysfunction, this would be true.

However, I think you underestimate the power of DRAMA. Many of us are drawn to it....like a moth to a flame!

^ Post of the year, funny, clever and likely true. I got a kick out of the dwindling gene pool observation.

RichRod did not win, which is why he "fell out of favor". What rubbed peple the wrong way was his inability to win Big Ten games. The same will happen to Fleck if he is struggling, regardless of his Row the Boat stuff or not. If Fleck wins than I will row that damn boat right next to him.

Change is a good thing. Try to embrace it.

I agree with that as well. Once RR proved that he couldnt win, the fact that he had pissed all over UofMs traditions was brought much more to light. And he didnt do much to endear himself to the former players from the start.

I dont see Fleck pissing all of WMUs tradition (whatever that is). I was just passing along comments and a discussion that I had with a few former WMU players.

Got a proposal: let's petition Coach Fleck to change the motto from "Row the boat" to "Rock the boat" which reflects the board's collective dharma. Hell, we could have hired a reincarnated Knute Rockne and most here would be unhappy.
