That is true now, but when I entered Miami in 1967, our schedule always featured nonleague games with Dayton, Xavier, and UC. UD and X were considered major conference football at that time. When Riverfront Stadium was first opened, the 4 schools got together for a football doubleheader.

Dayton @ BG was the first game ever played at Doyt Perry Stadium.

All of the schools in the Pioneer are not totally non scholarship. In fact, I think Dayton is one of the few who is still 100% non scholarship.

i agree. if the a-10 gets severely pillaged, and the mac can then add umass for all sports; then wku seems like a good geographic and athletic fit. it would be good for umass, wku and the mac.

Really? I thought the whole point of that league was to stay "scholarship free". You just altered my world view in a manner I am not prepared to handle. It's kinda disquieting

so the mac is content to stay at 13 at this moment, especially with the threat of umass leaving apparently done for now? at least we get an email confirming what we've all been speculating for a year now haha.

the mac continues to not make moves.

The MAC is obviously talking about membership and reassessing what the possibilities are in the post BE split world.

SBC schools are more "on the table" for the MAC if they want to go in that direction. That is the big difference I see in this discussion for the MAC coming out of the moves this winter.

RE: The MAC is talking to Appalachian State
It all depends on how the chips fall in the nBE and possible poaching of C-USA by that league and perhaps the MWC with respect to UTEP. Sounds like Tulsa is on the radar screen for nBE and there are rumors about USM but that seems a tad far-fetched. Still, with Houston and SMU they may want to develop a Texas "region" western division and they have already confirmed that with San Diego State and Boise bolting that they will no longer pursue a far west school. This seems to be leading exactly as noted earlier in the thread, the nC-USA is really the old Sunbelt plus some "cats and dogs" and holdovers like Marshall. The league won't break up per se, but could easily fall way behind the MAC in on the field performance.
The MAC can sit back and see if one or two schools make sense to grab, depending on if Umass stays and we go east, or UMass goes and we thinkg about expanding the footprint slightly south or west.
