RE: "Aresco's Big East Plan Might Work"
Love the message coming from Aresco. I am excited about where we are going. Doesn't matter that it's not what it once was, it's MUCH better than where we are. It's also nice to see that the media who covers the Big East expects big things out of Memphis when it comes to basketball. Most agree that we will be part of the anchor for the conference. We'll bring that sustained success in basketball, let's hope we can make them happy about bringing in our football!

Also - holy-hyperbole that guy cannot write.

Nice piece. I feel a little better about the future of the BEast. And nice to see Memphis getting some love.

I like the part about Memphis being a lock.

Thanks GA, good article. Optimistic.

I guess my one question would be why are they negotiating separate tv deals, one for basketball and one for football? Is that normal? I know CBS football has an $EC football game every week but not a basketball game every week.

But, I thought they would go out and seek a deal for both sports.

Because even though basketball isn't going to be as good, it is still worth a lot of money; more than all but 3 or 4 conferences. Also, there are networks that will be willing to pay more because they need the inventory.

If Aresco can get the nBE a decent to good TV deal then maybe the bleeding will finally stop. The nBE desparately needs good news of this sort.

I understand that, but I thought football was supposed to be the big money generator which is why the Big East wanted to add football, which in the end is why...oh never mind.

RE: "Aresco's Big East Plan Might Work"
The key factor is that every team in the nBe is hungry and aggressive. Not only does that include the newbies, but the old guard as well. Every institution understands that the raiding of leagues by the "big boys" has not been finalized. Therefore every school is going to do everything possible to make themselves as attractive as possible for the next round of invites. This is only going to make the nBe better in the long run. Plus, athletic programs in the nBe have the opportunity to play the "big boys" and prove that we do indeed very much belong amongst them.

It may not be perfect, but it is much better than where most of us came from, and in my opinion, better than the MWC as a total sports league. I do not see how the MWC can grow and prosper near as well as the nBe. Very few of their universities have the resources nor "sex" appeal that would make the Pac or Big XII want them. Therefore, I would think that those institutions would not be near as aggressive as any in the Big East.

All of this, and blind faith, lead me to believe that the Big East will be a tremendous success and eventually grow into the great league we all thought we were going to join. I will worry about who is leaving if and when it happens. Let's play ball! Go Big East.

RE: "Aresco's Big East Plan Might Work"
So his big plan is trying to sell UConn a load of crap??????

To quote Sherman T Potter "You remind me of a feller who once tried to sell me a dead mule. Said it would be no problem to feed and it didn't kick. "

To find anything positive in that propaganda sheet is a severe stretch. Am sure the guy still has some contacts in the BE but there is really nothing in the report other than a lot of BS that the BE is trying to sell UConn in hope they buy it.

Nothing concrete in the blog. Just hope that the misleading campaign will be swallowed by the administration of UConn. Nothing in it suggest UConn has ever considered not looking else where. Nothing that suggest a new and improved TV deal is any where on the horizon. UConn's people know that if they win the conference title they still only have a 1 in 5 chance of getting into the playoffs. UConn is looking to move to one of the five remaining conferences which guarantee a playoff spot if they win the championship.

It is what it is. The only thing I can say for sure is (engineers do use math):

nBE > nCUSA

The remainder of this is TBD. Who knows how much money we will draw from our new conference? Who knows what opportunities will arise for UCONN or Cincy or whoever to jump to a new conference?

Who knows how the "automatic qualifier" slot for the NCAA tourney will go (stay with the BE or follow the Catholic 7)? Same with the conference name? This could all be decided by lawyers and judges.

Of course UConn is looking at all possibilities - the vast majority of schools not in the SEC, Big 10 or PAC 12 are doing the same. That does not mean that they are leaving or that the new Big East might not become successful.

What were the misleading statements?

The conference tag line should be "The Big East. Hey we are still better than CUSA!"

This all feels like we are in the play-in game. If you win you can move to a bigger league. 01-lauramac2
