Don't meet APR requirements. (seemed like it was the previous coaches fault)
It will be interesting to see when the strict APR numbers set in for the 2014 season in football. Several AQ teams who went bowling this year would not have been bowl eligible in 2014.

Essentially, Toledo doesn't get seeded so only 11 teams will have a seed. Top two get a bye to the semis, 3-5 get a bye to the quarter finals. 6-11 play first round games at campus sites.

The good news, if NIU wins today we will gain a full game on Ohio or Akron for the faint hope of catching one of them for the double bye. Extremely doubtful but you never know.

RE: NIU bball rest of the year, whats left to play for?
I said this before the year started, 10 wins would be a good season. I believe if Nader wasn't suspended early on, we would be well on our way to achieving this goal. Now it's going to be a challenge.
If you watch this team, you can tell they are much more athletic and play harder on the defensive end. They have had some good wins (Miami and Kent St) and some bad losses, which is a sign of young team. What I want to see this season is one of these young kids beside Nader and Bolin to step up and decide that they can contribute more on the offensive end. This is by far the teams biggest problem, the ability to score. I am confident that Coach Montgomery has an idea of how to address this either by developing one of his current players or to address this in next years recruiting class.
Be patient everyone, you cannot build a solid program in a year. Remember the football team went 3 and 30 before the foundation was built for years of success. We have the right coach, I just hope he stays for a little while when things start getting good.

JJ looks to be that guy.....has had 9-10 points a few times and stretches the defense with his ability to catch and shoot....is a tough kid who has really improved his D which has allowed mm to feel comfortable using him, even when asked to guard bigger or quicker foes.

Fellas, I don't think anyone realizes this...
IF the regular season ended today...the MAC Tournament would look like this
1. Akron
2. Ohio
3. WMU
4. EMU
5. NIU - via their 2-0 record vs the tied teams and their win over Miami
6. Miami - via their 2-0 record vs the tied teams and their wins over Buffalo and BGSU
7. BGSU - via their win over Kent head to head and their win over EMU
8. Kent St - via their win over Buffalo and EMU
9. Buffalo
10. CMU - via their win over Ball St
11. Ball St
*NIU, Miami, BGSU, Kent St and Buffalo all sit at 3-5 in conference.
*Tiebreaker for multiple teams is total won lost record of games played among the tied teams.
*YES, you read that correct...NIU would get a bye in the first round if the Tournament was held now.
Tournament:
Buffalo
at Kent St
NIU gets winner. EMU gets winner in quarters. Akron waiting in semis
CMU
at BGSU
Ball St
at Miami
Winners play. WMU gets winner. Ohio waiting in semis

Real Time RPI projects 4 more wins and a 7-9 MAC record.
Toledo would have been a nice win, but thankfully it doesn't affect tiebreakers.
The great thing about college basketball is every team in America has a chance at the NCAA Tournament heading into March, because all it takes is getting hot for a few days. Well, every team except Toledo.

The Toledo game was a tough one to swallow. Much tougher to swallow than the WMU or EMU games. Could have easily been back at .500 in conference play.

I would take a MAC record of 7-9. We probably would get a first round bye. That would be 4 games more than last year. You do that again and you are 11-5 and at the top of the conference.

Ugh. The EMU game was tougher to swallow than anything I've seen.

TOLEDO game hurt more. NIU was winning at home, with less than 3 mins left. EMU and the WMU games, they were never in them.
