GSU knocks off CAA leaders Northeastern 78-73 in Boston
http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/college/g...ern/nWBsC/
Quote:The Panthers overcame an 11-point first-half deficit, and freshman R.J. Hunter tied a career-high with 27 points in a 78-73 victory over Northeastern in Boston on Wednesday night.
Georgia State (11-12, 6-4 Colonial Athletic Association) won for the fifth time in six games, while Northeastern (13-8, 8-1) had its eight-game winning streak snapped as the Huskies dropped their first game in conference play.
Hunter, who helped cut the deficit in the first half with 12 consecutive Panthers points, tied his career-high set just over a week ago, making 10-of-18 from the floor, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. His biggest play might have been on defense, blocking Jonathan Lee’s jumper with under 20 seconds to play that would have tied the score.
Rashaad Richardson and Devonta White each added 13 for the Panthers, while Manny Atkins chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Northeastern blitzed Georgia State with eight 3-pointers in the first half, but the Panthers were able to stay within seven. The defense tightened up in the second half to force the Huskies to miss nine of their 12 attempts.
Rashaad Richardson and Devonta White added 13 points each. Manny Atkins scored 12. James Vincent came through with several important offensive rebounds.
“That was a very good win for us,” coach Ron Hunter said in a statement givent to the media. “In the first half, Northeastern shot the ball extremely well and I told our guys that we are a better defense team than that. In the second half, we came out and played GSU-type defense and held them to just 27 points and under 40 percent shooting.
“We played with a lot of confidence in the second half. We have been playing with a lot of confidence lately and the results are showing on the court.”

I was out, but furiously refreshing twitter by the end. Might have cost us 1st place in trivia for not paying attention.

GSU just beat a team that had a higher RPI than every Sun belt team except MTSU (who won't be in the Sun Belt when we get there next year).
That enough of a tie-in for ya?

So our non-team sports are all playing Sun Belt schedules and we'll be joining the SBC in the rest in a few months, but we can't post on here when we do well in basketball?

The only reason I knew there was a Northeastern was because years ago someone made mention of since there was a Northwestern that there should be a Northeastern, and there actually already was a school named that. Certainly had no idea they were in the CAA for basketball.

.....said the fan of the school that isn't in the Sun Belt, isn't in FBS, doesn't have an invite to either, and whose Basketball RPI is below every Sun Belt team and all but two CAA teams.

Aren't you guys moved to the CUSA board yet? Why are all MTSU fans(except MTPiKapp) total tools?

Sun Belt BBS.
You'll have to excuse his ignorance on basketball, his school can barely even get 500 people to come watch a game.
Good win by Georgia State. We beat Northeastern to win the Great Alaska Shootout.

Nice win for a team should be immediately competitive when they begin SBC play in less than 12 months.
Please feel free to post anything GSU related.

I've pretty much written this season off as far as the CAA is concerned. Coach Hunter even said at the beginning of the season he considers us independent for the year. I'm excited to see this young team really start to gel and am extremely excited to see if it can carry over the offseason to really start in the SBC with a bang.

Also exciting to see a kid as a freshman who will be in the NBA in 4 years. RJ is ridiculous. I shudder to think where this team will be in the 2014-15 season.

Probably similar to North Texas this season and their preseason hype of top 25 with their all world NBA player...We see how that is working out for them..

Doubtful. Some of our more vocal fans haven't done us any favors.
I'm going to have to stand up for Ga State in this thread though. This is a good win over a quality opponent and they're a future SBC member. If conversation is going to be restricted to current teams with no plans to leave, it's going to get awfully quiet in here.
