Better Rebounder- Cooper or Marshall?
obviously its Zeke, right? He's a 7' center and DJ is a 6' point guard. no contest, right? These numbers are a little surprising, after their junior years their career totals in rebounds were as follows-
Cooper- 512 reb
Marshall- 492 reb
Here it is by year-
Freshman- DJ 198, Zeke 135
Sophomore- DJ 176, Zeke 175
Junior- DJ 138, Zeke 182
Marshall finally passed Cooper about a month ago but will have to keep his current pace if he hopes to beat Cooper's best single season total of 198 boards from his freshman year.
The two players have faced each other 8 times in the last 3 years, Cooper is averaging nearly a full rebound/game more than Marshall (4.9 v 4.0) in their head to head match ups, will the 7 footer be able to out board the 6 footer this Saturday?

Minutes?
yes, minutes play a huge part of it (though Zeke, up until this year hasn't been a great rebounder). Even this year, while Zeke has been much better, another factor is the amount of bigs going for those rebounds. Akron has more of those than Ohio.
When you are only playing 25 or so minutes, then have to compete with Demetrius Treadwell (about 10 rebounds per game in MAC play), you're overall numbers won't look that good.
But if anybody thinks that Marshall hasn't gotten much more aggressive on the glass, they are fooling themselves.

Does number of rebounds win games?

look at all the Akron apologists. Zeke is one of the highest rated recruits to ever play in the MAC but we have to give him credit for sitting the bench to get his rebounding numbers to square up against a point guard that's a full foot shorter.
I guess it wouldn't be fair to compare stats in NCAA tournament games either since Cooper has played way more minutes than Marshall has there too.

I guess DJ is also better than Michael Jordan since DJ has more points, rebounds, and steals in their college careers. It's not DJ's fault that MJ left early for the NBA.

Not better than MJ but he is better than Zeke.

no the logic of this thread is a 7 foot, top 100 recruit should be dominating a statistic that is used to measure 7 footers, but he isn't. Plus, there's not a lot of smack talk worthy games to talk about this year so I figured baggin on Zeke would be fun. you non-Zips fans need to lighten up.

So you ask a question, people reespond with supporting data and then you call them apologists and tell them to lighten up. Got it.

This is pretty tame compared to the douchebaggery that's been exhibited by a number of OU fans on zipsnation over the past month or so. There's been instances of novelty troll accounts which reappear whenever the Akron/OU game is approaching.
BTW, I'm pretty sure the OP was being serious. At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
