Any suggestions of to dos or donts for this trip?

I am 99.9% sure that my wife and I will be making the trip for our anniversary weekend.

We are looking to stay away from Iowa City and more towards the Quad Cities area.

Carry a gun...and be ready to use it. If you get accosted by an Iowa fan and you don't want to use the gun, toss him a can of cheap beer and a handful of corn cobs to grab his attention - then run like hell.

Been a few years since I was there, but I have been several times. Iowa City is a decent place and a fun place to be on football Saturday. Expect to take a ton of s#*t from their fans (not violent), but they are the biggest bullies in the Big Ten. They are by far the ones who most get their rocks off beating smaller schools. They'll probably be worse than usual since victory is in no way assured. The Minnesota and Purdue fans were very quiet before we played them (since they weren't at all sure they would win). Iowa fans aren't wired that way. The more they suck, the more obnoxious they get.

I don't mind but my wife doesn't like that stuff so she will have a better time if we are hanging out with a decent group of NIU fans at tailgating and sitting with Huskie fans during the game.

I am not so worried about Purdue

I am kicking myself for watching, feel like I just left the OB now! I have to think NIU will be licking their chops for this year, a lot to prove coming off the OB.

Again, I am sorry, congrats FSU and FU Toledo.

Go Huskies........
I agree that we were a c-hair away from a much closer game or even an upset. But, I also remember that FSU may have been able to punch in another score if they had stayed aggressive to the end.

Nice post man. We are in the same conference and have been a formidable opponent for decades, but if you want to congratulate the Noles and tell us to F U, that is your call! I think you will find that there arent as many Rocket haters as you think since many of us have met each other and tailgated together. Watch the Toledo game again too. You will see that Toledo was that close too. We lost, end of story, but no need for the F U stuff. That is low class!

Thank you, I mean that, thank you. We have something special going on here. Don't get butt hurt here, it's not like I am pointing a missile at your school. Get good and mad, tell your rocket buddies, let's get a real rivalry going here. Your rivalry with Bowling Green is a joke, its basically dead. I would like something that Michigan and Ohio State have, a deep healthy hate. I would like to see more band members flying around getting involved, more Huskie and Rocket haters. I apologize if you thought I was talking directly to you. I was talking to your school, your program, and your
funny mascot that looks like, well, a member.
I don't need to watch the Toledo game, to old for another heart attack. NIU will have their hands full again at Toledo, I get it. A good healthy hate in college football is a good thing. What happen to the good ole days when even the Toledo coach's fought after the game...? I take back the FU, and ask in return that you start getting mad that we NIU won again, and will take another one at Toledo. Think rivalry you glorious Toledo bastard you......

StPeteRocket, don't take it personal. He knows - we all know - that our game with Toledo is always a great game. Well, it is a great game as long as NIU wins. 04-cheers

RE: So close!
We had set our DVR to record the Orange Bowl and we waited until 2 weeks after we got home to watch it. I don't generally like re-watching games we lose.
Yea...so close is right. Our Offense & Jordan did not play as well as they had all year. Our D played really well for the most part or the score would have been much different. Of course the score would also have been much different if Lynch had had a better game & our receivers had made the catches they missed.
My hubby made a list of non-calls or bad calls by the refs while we watched the DVR. He looked really carefully at the calls (or non calls) and we think the game could have been much different if they had called all the holding FSU did on our players... the non called pass interference...and the non fumble - the fact that the player was DOWN. BOTH knees and it was not a fumble. That was going to be a TD for us. All momentum killers. **sigh**

I take heart in the fact that WE were in it much better and for longer - than Notre Dame who was getting their butts handed to them by 3 TD's halfway thru the first quarter.

Mr. Nole - please do not comment. This post is directed at my fellow NIU fans. Thank you.

I live in a winter wonderland, skiing has been great, we have the ice rink for nightly hockey fights set up on the lake. I was fine until I watched the OB on YouTube. I am pissed again, so Toledo is the punching bag as they should be. I want more out of our program, conference, etc. I do believe a strong rivalry would not only benefit NIU but also get a lot more eyes on the MAC in general. Every team out there knows playing at Toledo is not a given win, and NIU is quickly gaining that same respect. It would be good for college football in general to see another strong rivalry game, not to mention help attendance for our schools.
I am still pissed that Utah State beat Toledo, see, what is wrong with me?

Sorry but when you make statement like you have, you should expect a response. Also are you really laying blame to the refs for multiple holding calls? Really? FSU players were not holding, they were just much bigger on the line. The fumble could have gone either way and looked like he was down, but the non PI call was not one of the bad calls. Contact is allowed within 5 yards and honestly the NIU WR ran a poor route...straight to the top corner instead of the deep corner.

I also don't see how you can say any drive would have resulted in a TD...you can say that about every drive each team had that ended in a punt. I think NIU put up a strong effort and had a tough match up with a defense that is one of the best in the country. The game ended as it probably should have and the score reflected that.

I will also say that NIU showed they deserved much more than ND. I am positive after seeing NIU play in the OB, they would have given Alabama a much better game than the Irish did.
