Incident @ Ohio U
it is not Just NIU

The basketball game scheduled for this evening has been cancelled and rescheduled for February 20 th.
UPDATE 12:25

In light of the fact that the armed fugitive that was spotted in the Athens campus vicinity has not been apprehended, the President has decided as a precautionary measure to close the Athens campus. All classes are cancelled, all students will be asked to return to their residences, and all non-essential employees should return home Unless notified otherwise, classes and normal work activities will resume Thursday at their normal times.

UPDATE: 11:44 AM

At 9:24 a.m. on January 30, 2013, Athens police received a report of an armed robbery at Station Street Apartments. The suspect was allegedly armed with a handgun and fled on foot in the direction of Stocker Center. The suspect is described as follows:

- African-American male

- 6'1" - 6'2" in height

- Wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans

- Carrying a handgun

OUPD immediately responded to the area and began searching for the suspect. An emergency text and email alert was sent to everyone on the Athens campus at 9:59 a.m.

OUPD has not imposed a lockdown on any portion of campus at this time because there have been no confirmed sightings of the suspect on campus. However, OUPD has called in additional officers and is saturating the campus at this time. Some departments have increased their level of security and watchfulness, to include:

Asking all in-hall residential housing staff to have a presence in their buildings/common areas to answer questions and provide advice to students (residence halls are locked 24/7)

Stationing full-time staff at all entrances of Baker Center to report suspicious activity

Stationing full-time staff at all entrances of Recreation facilities (Ping, Bird, Aquatic Center, etc) to report suspicious activity

OUPD is advising the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons to police immediately. Anyone who observes a person matching the suspect's description should report it to police right away.
