tough loss and the Pirates were game enough. That 3pt barrage by Memphis in the 2nd almost pulled the too far apart from us for us to come back then we get back down to manageable score late...couldn't seal the deal.

I saw two NBA scouts in attendance. I was about to ask if they were from the Bobcats LOL.

Sampson being out really really hurt us. It was nice to see Prince Williams get more PT though, and I believe he's going to end up being a very solid player for us down the road.

Tulsa, SMU, and USM looked at but didn't offer DJ. He's the heart and soul of this team and is one of the best and most decent young men you'd ever be fortunate enough to meet. Really.

Just wanted to tell the East Carolina fans that I was very impressed how hard your team played. They were exhausted toward the end (having to play with a depleted roster), but they still played their guts out. Still plenty of games left to finish strong.

You sure?? I'm pretty sure USM offered Stephens a scholarship and he chose Memphis over us.

RE: Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU
Memphis had 10 blocked shots, most I have seen in a while against us; Refs called it really tight on the Pirates early while UM played very physical but no fouling ( at least not called fouls). In the end total fouls were close, but free thows attempted and made were wide apart team wise. Memphis is loaded, Lebo is a very good coach shuffling a depleted squad in and out and hanging in. Sometime, they will start winning some of these close games.
CUSA looks good overall to me this season with the top four or five teams. Congrats to the Tigers, you hit shots, blocked shots and held off the Pirate rally.

If you are a USM fan, you want Memphis to go 14-2 in C-USA with both losses coming to USM.

As a USM fan, I want USM to go 16-0 and I don't care what any other team does.

Nope. I think he'd have signed at USM.

Memphis leads the all-time series against ECU 13-1.

Memphis is 6-1 against ECU in Minges. Of the six wins, only one was under a ten point margin of victory. That was way back during the 2004-05 season when Memphis won by 6.

The one win by ECU in the series occurred on 03-02-11. The Pirates and Tigers were tied at the half, 28-28. ECU took control in the second half and won by 11.
History will have absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game, talent will. The Tigers by 7.

Sorry to quote myself, but nailed this one.

Once upon a time I would have been ecstatic for a 7 point loss to Memphis. After the game I was pissed because we had a chance to win and choked at the line and missed some big open buckets towards the end. All of this with a depleted roster minus two starters.

This tells you how far Lebo has brought us. We expect to win every game. With that said, Memphis is the most talented team that we have played this year including UNC. My wife made the comment that it looked like your players outweighed ours by 100 lbs.

Nice game Tigers, I hope we continue the series in the NBE.

Flubber.......

He had one other scholarship offer when we signed him as a roster filler when Cal left the cupboard empty. He's panned out well. Good guy with good "social manners." I'd describe Goodwin, who got the tech, the same way socially, so the tech was surprising.

Good game Pirates and Pirate fans. Who knows what would have happened if you had the full roster tonight. We were fortunate to hit that streak of 3s when you went to a zone, or things could have been entirely different.

Yeah I remember reading another Memphis poster mention that on here. Just goes to show that with all the recruiting "experts" out there, there are plenty of kids who get overlooked.

(By the way my comment about testing him for performance enhancing drugs was a joke. Not sure if it came across that way.)

Rodney Carney was another guy like that for us. Unranked by the recruiting services, almost completely under the radar because he didn't do the AAU circuit. Did have another offer, from Oklahoma...and completely kicked @ss for us before becoming a bit of an NBA journeyman.

This is still what I think of as his signature play...

This is a pic from a UTEP-Memphis game last year courtesy of missjtiger on the memphistigers.org forum.

DJ is on the left, jumping up after Will Barton lays it in. It is not photoshopped. He just levitates.

Nothing wrong with that play...and it got me out of my seat. But the block against St. John left me speechless and with my jaw on the floor.
