Meeting isnt done yet I dont think. Maryland was there though, at least some representation for them.

Must be awkward for MD with ESPN and (Raycom?) there talking in front of them and the rest of the ACC about how to make an ACC Network go through. You cant tell me there wont be bashing of MD going on inside that room.

RE: ACC Winter Meetings tomorrow!
"Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson might be feeling just a wee bit awkward at these meetings.

Representatives from the ACC's television partners -- ESPN and Raycom -- are also in attendance. The football coaches are not.

This has been labeled as more of a blue-sky type of meeting that is expected to cover a wide range of topics and focus on the future of the league and its identity with the new members and Notre Dame. There are three main topics that will be discussed, though:
•Future scheduling, bowl tie-ins and the future of the postseason
•Television contracts
•NCAA legislation topics that came out of the NCAA convention earlier this month in Grapevine, Texas. Two of the main topics were trying to simplify rules, and changing the recruiting climate."

Shouldn't they recuse themselves from those discussions? Looks like it'd open a whole new can of worms if something proprietary was leaked to the B1G. All fingers would be pointing back on Maryland.

I always love the 'Cuse matchup and agree mostly very friendly. Heck around here when I wear an Orange shirt , it's the UK fans that get on Me saying "what are You a Gator, Syracuse, or Tennessee fan?" I usually answer Yes , Yes, No. All 3 have kicked UK's A#s at special moments.

We've played SU 59 years in a row in football, not to mention over 100 times in basketball. We have major shared major Eastern independent history. No disrespect with Louisville, but Pitt really doesn't have much history with them and we haven't been in the same conference for even a decade yet. We've played Miami twice as many times. I think most Pitt fans would rank VT and Miami as bigger rivals in football, not to mention ND.

I actually agree with this sentiment. I would think Pitt/Cuse are as inseparable as FSU/Miami

Not really. It just goes to show that a bunch of games between two schools does not make it a rivalry. Wake Forest is Clemson's 3rd most played opponent but they aren't a rival, just someone we have played and beat a bunch.

One constant I have heard from both Pitt and Cuse fans since they came aboard the ACC is that the two schools are never up at the same time, and it pretty much seems like just another game on the schedule despite the history.

The impression I get is the majority of the Cuse fans are going to automatically gravitate towards BC as a rival because of the existing hatred (exasperated by the fact that BC had the balls to follow through with leaving the Big East the first go round and they didn't)

In football, Pitt/SU is absolutely not a rivalry based on hate. I'd say, on Pitt's side, Pitt people generally like SU when not playing Pitt. It is more like a tradition. An annual golf game with an old friend. It doesn't mean you don't really want to beat them though.

As an SU fan I agree with this post. SU-Pitt is more a traditional rivalry. If I was looking for a rivalry based on hate then it would be SU-Rutgers. I was hoping RU would get stuck in the BE.

Wake wanted the ACC to seriously consider Navy, but was scoffed at but many and that notion was ignored. Duke and UNC both pushed for Louisville's admittance, with Syracuse's AD calling around the league many times to help get Louisville in, and also say some negatives things about UCONN. I didn't realize the hatred between Cuse and UCONN but it became apparent.

It is also true that UNC, Duke, Wake supported UCONN, they almost would have supported anyone.... those three along with Clemson..VT..BC..Pitt and Cuse seemed to care the most about the ACC surviving and coming out stronger. Thats why I laugh when I hear rumors about any of them, they seem to be constantly working to secure the conference, with FSU there as well. GT was supportive as well, but looking for an AD they weren't as involved in the process as some.

I don't know any UofL fans who are the least bit bitter toward a school rumored to have opposed us, and I haven't sensed any bitterness on the part of any other fans toward us, even if we weren't necessarily their first choice. To say a school at first supported UConn over UofL isn't saying that, in the end, they were against UofL. The vote was actually unanimous. So I appreciate & agree with your post.

This has always described the UofL/Cincy rivalry for the most part as well. Though we haven't always been in the same conference, there's never been a time like what's coming (i.e. one school being in an elite conference and the other having been held back). That's why I honestly think the rivalry could be stronger in the future if we continue it. We would be the ones who moved up and intend to prove our superiority. They're the ones who got left behind with a chip on their shoulder. Every rivalry game every year could be like a referendum on the validity of the status quo.

I don't know whether other UofL fans feel as strongly as I do that the rivalry should continue. I sense a lot of indifference on the part of other internet posters. But I think it would be good for us to have them as a non-BCS-level OOC on an annual basis along with BCS-level OOC foe UK, though that would only leave us 2 more OOC games to work with... one the years we're scheduled to play Notre Dame.

Maybe we could play them any year we're not playing ND, and still keep 2 non-traditional OOC rivalries every year (though, judging from the quality of our OOC games of late, I'd feel better with a few quality guaranteed games and not have to worry about playing Murray and Eastern and Missouri State.

RE: ACC Winter Meetings tomorrow!
I didn't get to talk long or find out much info, except like I said earlier Maryland was there, Swarbrick, Jurich, Cuse and Pitt reps all in attendance. One school is looking for an OOC opponent and is interested in playing another ACC school for it, everyone else wants them to find a real OOC opponent. ND is still in discussions with the Big East, no definitive answer, still a chance to get out by 2013. Swofford is giving them all the time they need. We have a general idea how ND will fit in for 2014, if you already have them on the schedule you will likely keep them. Look for the ND setup to be one like a geographic pod system

Some suggestions tossed around:
1. An Alliance is being pushed with SEC not Big 12, ESPN would likely have to assist with that
2.ESPN really wants that 6th game for ND
3. A discussion about MSG was brought up as well.

1. From a rivalry point of view, SEC makes WAY more sense than Big XII... but at the end of the day you take what you can get.
2. duh. A fat woman wants a biscuit, too!
3. about time.

What is a 6th game? Do you mean 9th game?

Quote:3. A discussion of realigning divisions, Virginia not happy with rival being Louisville.

How about making it UL-VT and BC-UVA?

That's probably the best solution.

I don't really care all that much, but why would UVA prefer BC to Louisville? I don't associate those two schools with each other that much either, but at least Louisville is a couple of hours closer by car.

As far as the schools Louisville's most likely to be able to develop a football rivalry with here's how I rank them from our end. This has nothing to do with how good I think a team is, just how much history we have with them or how much I think we have in common:
  1. Pitt
  2. Syracuse
  3. Miami
  4. Va Tech
  5. FSU
  6. Ga Tech
  7. NC State
  8. UVA
  9. Wake
  10. Clemson
  11. UNC
  12. Duke
  13. BC
I wonder if other Louisville fans agree with this or not.

Cincinnati is a bigger rival for Louisville than any of these schools mentioned above and hopefully we will be re-united again soon.

Personally, I think adding a conference mate as a supposed OOC game should be against the rules. It would completely muddy the waters in case of a tie going into the CCG and would confuse the heck out of fans who wondered why their school didn't make it if they'd won one more conference game than the team that did make it.

I agree that the SEC makes more sense. Despite what WVU fans post (ad nauseum), there's no current danger of either the ACC or B12 raiding each other, and an alliance between the two of them would have no effect on B1G or SEC decisions. So talk of that particular alliance putting the skids on realignment is nonsense imho. An ACC alliance with either the SEC or B1G (I'd prefer the latter, but would be almost just as happy with the former) would calm things down - at least on the east coast. The B12 needs to include the Pac in its alliance pursuits, since they're in danger of being poached not from 2 sides, but from 3.

No offense but Cincinnati isn't really on anyone's radar right now, and we don't really get excited for the Keg of Nails anymore. It's just another game on the schedule to us.

Plus, s/he was responding to my post listing potential ACC rivals only. It had nothing to do with OOC rivalries.

Went for my daily jog around Kenan Memoriak when I noticed a car paired inside the gates.... With a Minnesota Liscense plate and a WF sticker... This means one thing were trading Wake Forest for Minnesota! Done deal but very fluid.

Back to reality I probably won't have an update for a day or two, but if I hear anything ill let you guys know!

This is blatantly wrong, here is a snippet from a UofL blog following your win this year:

"Alright, first things first: f*** the city of Cincinnati and especially f*** cinnamon spaghetti chili. Nobody likes either of you.
You guys, the last four years were the worst of my life and I'm so happy to come back to my true home here in the Derby City. Also, really love what y'all are doing downtown. KFC Yum! Center. NuLu. Charlie f***ing Strong. God, I love this place."
