Likely, "unofficially". While Syracuse and Pitt will be members within a few months, we still aren't allowed to vote or directly sway any matters. Jurich stated that Florida State, Clemson, and Syracuse were the biggest proponents of getting Louisville into the ACC. If he sited Syracuse as a reason, and SU has no real power currently, that means that incoming members opinions are listened to, and that they partake in meetings.

Yes future members go, SU and Pitt were at last Autumns meeting as well. If an official vote is taken, the current members will take a vote, while the others will say they agree etc etc. Apparently Maryland still wants in on the meeting, as stated in their case against the ACC. They feel they are still a full member having not formally withdrawn from the conference.

I would leave Maryland out.

There is nothing good that could come of Maryland participating. They've aligned themselves with a competitor. They shouldn't be allowed to make decisions about the conference nor be privileged to the conferences financial plans and future deals.

RE: ACC Winter Meetings tomorrow!
^My sentiments exactly. I doubt Maryland could use it against the ACC....the ACC could just say Maryland will tell the Big Ten what is going on in their meetings and that should be the end of that.

I dont think I have ever heard of a leaving member voting for members or being in discussions after they left, do SU and Pitt vote for Tulane, or Missouri vote for WVU. Maryland has nothing to back up that point of theirs.

How about making it UL-VT and BC-UVA?

the idea was for ND to play BC and Pitt every year, plus 4 games vs the other 12 (1 game each in 3 years, or 2 games in 6 yrs)

as a Hokie fan, I'd love this; would UVa go for it?

I don't really care all that much, but why would UVA prefer BC to Louisville? I don't associate those two schools with each other that much either, but at least Louisville is a couple of hours closer by car.

As far as the schools Louisville's most likely to be able to develop a football rivalry with here's how I rank them from our end. This has nothing to do with how good I think a team is, just how much history we have with them or how much I think we have in common:
  1. Pitt
  2. Syracuse
  3. Miami
  4. Va Tech
  5. FSU
  6. Ga Tech
  7. NC State
  8. UVA
  9. Wake
  10. Clemson
  11. UNC
  12. Duke
  13. BC
I wonder if other Louisville fans agree with this or not.

I'm not sure. UVA could have been among the initial protests of adding Louisville. That's really the only reason I can think of.

Ehhhh, I don't know...I think a lot goes into a rivalry. Sometimes volume of games takes a back seat to "milestones" or "moments"...that's if we're talking from a purely one sided louisville fan perspective.

I'd see it like this...my opinion at least...

1. Miami (They stomped the bird...)
2. FSU (I tore down the goal posts)
3. VTech (While it was nice Beamer apologized, we still owe them for Dumervil)
4. Syracuse (They've beat us up lately...hoops bleed over)
5. UNC (Hoops bleed over)
6. Pitt (Big East mates)
7. Clemson (If division stay the same it'll be a blood bath between we 3 schools)
8. Georgia Tech (City School similarity)
9. Wake (Orange Bowl...would probably be higher if they were consistently strong)
10. NC State (Valvano Family Bowl)
11. Duke (Hoops bleed over)
12. BC (Pitino...Boston...I dunno)
13. UVA (Once again, I dunno)

RE: ACC Winter Meetings tomorrow!
We seem to agree in principle in many ways. I think the main difference is I'm tending to rank the importance of our BE history higher than you are. I would predict, with WVU & Cincy out of the picture, that Louisville & Pitt will probably see each other as more important than they did in the past.

There's no predicting a rivalry in advance. I think in the BE we developed much more of a rivalry with Rutgers than just about anybody predicted (and both times they had a really good chance of going to a BCS bowl, we ended up going instead). And the Cincinnati rivalry, though always good, was never quite as huge as it was expected to be. I think that's because there was really only 1 year in the BE when both teams were good at the same time.

If we keep up the Cincy series (and I really hope we do) I think it's possible that we could have a better OOC rivalry than we had in the Big East.

It's not like that is foreign to the ACC.

That said, UVA is stupid if they fight this. Every other year they will get a huge attendance boost when UL comes to play. Even better if UL comes to West Paris the years opposite of VT.

Y'all just best be prepared to deal with WASPs wearing bowties smelling of brie, gruyere and Cabernet Franc.

I agree...I really don't care much about Cincy or Memphis as rivals. I know some of the older folks do but I really have no use for them. I hope the best for them but I wouldn't lose any sleep if we didn't play either of them.

I understand. My generation saw Memphis as a principle rival, but I think we all admit that that's just not something people are interested in anymore. Because Cincy's so close, I'd still like to see them as a rival, but I'll also not lose any sleep if it doesn't happen.

I don't know. Maybe I'm letting the media influence me but I just feel like, despite success, Cincy (Football) and Memphis (Hoops) never took that next step up like UofL. Hell, maybe that's egotistical. It's just for some reason, they seem right at the cusp of taking the step forward but haven't made it. Maybe it's because Cincy has made the BCS but not won and Memphis has never won an NC in basketball (or been relevant in football in my lifetime).

RE: ACC Winter Meetings tomorrow!
I can't speak for Pitt's administration, but I'd have to feel Pitt would prefer to keep Syracuse as a rival. We've played SU 59 years in a row in football, not to mention over 100 times in basketball. We have major shared major Eastern independent history. No disrespect with Louisville, but Pitt really doesn't have much history with them and we haven't been in the same conference for even a decade yet. We've played Miami twice as many times. I think most Pitt fans would rank VT and Miami as bigger rivals in football, not to mention ND.

From what I heard, UVA was the biggest opponent to admitting UofL into the ACC. Academic reputation and cultural fit were two major issues and UVA supposedly felt that UofL had no business being invited to the ACC. It would not surprise me if UVA still had a lot of animosity towards UofL's invitation to the conference and that is leading them to seek a different arrangement (i.e. that way they don't have to associate with us at least in football).
