According to the 247 Composite Ratings, the ACC has 4 teams ranked in the top 25 (4 1/2 if you count ND03-shhhh). The B1G has 3 teams ranked and the Big 12 with only 2 teams ranked.

The ACC has always recruited pretty good, as we have the 2nd most players in the NFL behind the SEC. IF we can get coaching on par with the other conferences, the ACC can pull itself out of the basement of the power 5.04-rock

Clemson and Florida State fans will be quick to point out that the SEC is still ranked higher.

The ACC does well in recruiting and getting players drafted. It doesn't do as well on the field. [Image: shrug.gif]

We at Pitt has had the same issues tho. We had McCoy, Fitzgerald, Revis, and so on and so on. For whatever reason we couldn't put things together as a team and reach that "next level".

Urban Meyer will speak to Big Ten coaches about weak recruiting
by Paul Myerberg, USA TODAY Sports

Quote:In an appearance on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, Oh., Meyer said that he planned on addressing the Big Ten's poor recruiting directly with conference head coaches during an upcoming coaches meeting on Monday. [i.e. 2/11/13]

Quote:Meyer also said he was concerned about how the Big Ten fared on signing day when compared to the SEC, which had 10 teams in Rivals.com's top 25 classes for 2013. In comparison, the Big Ten only had three teams in the top 25: No. 2 Ohio State, No. 5 Michigan and No. 17 Nebraska.

Perhaps the ACC could use such a mandatory coaches meeting as well...?

Because Wannstedt did a horrible job recruiting the most important position on the field... Quarterback. He also did a piss poor job recruiting offensive lineman and linebackers. Sometimes when he did get a great recruit he had no idea what to do with them ie; Dorin Dickerson. What a waste of a perfectly good career?

The problem with Wannstedt was he wasn't a very bright X's and O's coach nor a good game day coach. He ran the Pitt program like he was still with Jimmy Johnson's Hurricanes. There they could take South Florida's 3rd best running back recruit and turn him into a linebacker and poof... all American. We don't have that kind of money tree here in Western PA and Wannstedt was either too stupid or too lazy to change his game plan.

I usually can't stand Skip Bayless but he was SPOT ON with this article about Wannstedt after he got fired from the Dolphins and its funny because this was written before he took the Pitt job but everything in this article happened at Pitt too.

A lot of those B1G schools have a tough time recruiting. Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue and Indiana have very little home grown talent and the best recruits from those states end up at Notre Dame or one of the top tier B1G schools. In fact, those schools have been losing out the past few years on recruits from Pitt, WVU, Louisville and Cincinnati as well who could dingle the carrott that they will have a better chance to win in their conference card.

Nobody wants to go to Minnesota and finish 4-8 every year.
