Taggart is an EXCELLENT coach. We were really hoping either he or Petrino would take over if Charlie took the UT job. Also, we really wanted Lamar Robbins too. Great get! Keep it up, Bulls!

This may end up being true, but I think it is a little early to say yet. ECU has only known for a couple months that it is going to the Big East. Ruff and Co. aren't afraid to go after the big recruits in our backyard but they also aren't to type to rescind offers to players if they think they can get someone better. It will probably be at least one more class before we find out if we are going to see a bump in recruiting. Recruits would probably want us to be IN the Big East for it to be a big selling point, or maybe even see us play in the Big East so it may be one or two more years before the hype really has an affect.

In UCF's case, while their sanctions are very minor, it may be counteracting whatever bump they will see for this year a bit.

All that said none of us know how good our recruiting classes that haven't even stepped foot on campus yet actually are unless we are going to take the "recruiting experts" word. They haven't been to accurate on ECU's players over the years, so I'm waiting to see just what we've got.

Yes, I always get a laugh out of the star system. For example, 2* Wilson Bell de-commited from UCF yesterday to choose between FSU and Auburn, and just like magic he's now a 3*.

Chris Johnson also had grade concerns that kept many schools away. I know that USF made a late run after he got grades but Johnson honored his commitment. In a strange twist of fate, if CJ goes elsewhere I doubt Holtz does as well at ECU and USF wouldn't be paying him $500k/year....NOT to coach USF

No one is solid until they sign and yes we know UL and others are still after him.

This is great news indeed, but I won't be happy until we get back to a bowl game next season (ANY bowl game) and compete for the conference championship within 2 years. Those last two season perforated my ulcers another inch or so...

Actually you have that backwards.

He changed his commitment to USF AFTER he visited Louisville. He was all set on attending UL until his official visit to UL. He said it wasn't for him and really wanted to stay closer to home.

Two of the DTs are actually going to play OL and USF has been upfront about recruiting up to 3 DTs to build depth. They are done at the position. Calloway and Senat are completely different players.

Everything isnt official until they sign on the dotted line. Last year there were several players who ECU fans felt as though they were solid only to kick us in the gut on national signing day. One ended up going to Ohio State a RB started at Duke. This year Hyman might do the same thing even though grades may still be an issue even though we have kept up with him for over 2 years. He is a Stud JUCO DE who originally commited to us out of HS but had to go the JUCO Route. We just got a Verbal from a JUCO RB who had offers from Arizona State and other schools out west. Our classes arent going to wow anyone and they never have. I would like to see us finally creep into the top 50 and that would be solid but consistently most recruiting sites rate us very low and always have. If a player is a 3 star commits to us they will be dropped to a 2 star. On the other hand if a borderline 3-4 star commits to Alabama he will be upgraded to a 4 star. Its only a week away and I guess we will see what happens. We have some legacy recruits signing with ECU this year. Robert Jones Son is going to sign with ECU and we are recruiting Joe Horn Jr.

Here's USF's class so far, and keep in mind half of it was recruited under Holtz, otherwise it would be even better. All of the top recruits have commited since Taggart came on board. Rivals has USf with the #35 class so far and if Taggart closes strong you could see USF with a top 25-30 class.

a interesting piece of news is that a CB that recently committed to Cincy is taking his official visit to ECU this weekend Benton. Both he and his teammate are visiting together so we could get them as a package.

Somewhere in the past it was explained that recruiting sites (at least the one doing the defending) view a school's interest in a player as a legitimate reason for boosting or lowering the star value. I can kind of understand the logic but it totally takes away the strength of the star system. The kid isn't really rated on how good he is and the money you pay for the recruiting site to do that "rating" is sluffed off on the whims of a University's interest. If you are a recruiting site, do your job. Your ratings should not solely be affected by an offer. If it is, it means you haven't been doing your homework and rely on others to grade for you....and you have no idea why X school is no longer needing that recruit. Certainly if a kid has multiple AQ offers and is rated a 4 star but chooses as non-AQ he shouldn't drop a star. That's absolute insanity.

The problem with the star system is there isn't any integrity. Fine, too many kids to rate everyone effectively? Then institute an rating which indicates the % the recruiting site has had the ability to grade the recruit on their own merits, not offers, other sites, etc. That'll never happen. It only exposes the site and shows it isn't doing the necessary homework.
