And you wonder why I say the Tri-Cities are a bad sports town.

I have no problem pushing soccer, but it shouldn't be an either or situation. Why not promote all of ETSU athletics, including a new football program?

Because the previous administration traded football for soccer, so the mindset is it is an either/or.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Noland has said anything about this $125 fee has he? Is the SGA going off of the same information that was used in 06-07?

Can we delete this thread??? Keep talking smack, maybe you can turn the vote negative. Holy smokes, this message board knows how to shoot themselves in the foot, and sure knows how to give up the fight before the fight ever started.

Guess I should expect that: The majority of our fan base is shared with UT!

Sure sounds like it. During all the months of following the events with Dr. Noland and laying the ground work to make this happen I have never heard about a specific fee let alone a fee of $125.00 to start off with. What they should be discussing is how they can get local businesses to contribute as well as fans and alumni and the major point I think is to reorganize the $12million plus athletic budget and see how the numbers shake out. If it is anything like the other state schools in Tennessee then I think they will find there is money there for FCS football on our campus.

I'm not bashing the SGA, but what I don't understand...if everything hinges on this meeting like the East Tennessean said it does, why hasn't Noland or Sander mentioned it? They said a decision would come by the end of Feb. or beginning of March....they mentioned nothing about an SGA meeting in Jan

That's because it DOESN'T hinge on this meeting -- they just want the positive vote from the SGA, and they will either get it, or it will get tabled for another day....

No talk about re-structuring of and re-allocating of athletic money. We have to let them know that this is a community effort and not merely on the students.

Well except the return of football is going to be on the students. Without student fees it doesn't happen. This is the primary source of funding for all FCS programs. That's not a problem, it just means an effort to involve students in the decision making process is a good one, since they are a significant stakeholder. It would be best to campaign the student body hard on football. So much of the success of football will ride on their support, both financially and as fans. An engaged student fan base should be a priority and not just an "if you build it they will come" attitude. If you look at Charlotte and ODU, their students wanted football. They basically demanded it. That was the difference at Charlotte where the AD and chancellor had both been staunchly non-football for years. You want the students in on this. Find ways to get their support, you're going to take their money for sure.
