Clawson first signed for the 2009 season, so I'm assuming this is his first big extension.
Based on recruiting and academic performance alone he definitely deserves some sort of extension. Our class this year (on paper) might be one of the best BG has ever had. (again, on paper).
Obviously his first few seasons (especially 10-11) were some weak years, but in retrospect those seem like growing pains for the much more solid 2012 season. BG may not be getting the big upsets that previous coach Brandon got over some bigger schools (Pitt, Minnesota) but Clawson certainly has the players winning the games they
should be winning. Brandon teams could lose against just about ANYBODY, especially a Buffalo team who was down 20 points in the 4th quarter with about 10 minutes left in the game.
I'm not keen on our OC; a lot of plays just seem boneheaded or too conservative from time to time. That's not entirely Clawson's fault, but it's still his staff. However, I certainly enjoy the overall stability right now and am willing to keep it to see how far Clawson can take it. If his program does take off, maybe this extension will keep him here. If he decides to leave, then well, he leaves.
