I thought C-USA brought in ODU for its hoops program? Now Charlotte on the other hand looks helpful.

ODU is just having an abnormally poor year. I'd look for them to be back on top in a year or two. They won't be down for long, I suspect.

RE: Conference USA RPI Update (01-28-13)
I'm not surprised that the "new" CUSA is stronger on the court than the current line up but what I'm surprised at is which programs are contributing at the top of the new conference.

I would have expected Charlotte and ODU to contribute significantly, but it's not the traditionally strong basketball programs that are contributing the most to the strength of the new line-up.

From potential cinderella's to bottom 20 in all of college basketball in about 2 years. I fall into the time for a new coaching staff, stat, camp. It'll take us 2-3 years to fix this mess. =[

Remember USM's football season last year? That's happening to ODU basketball right now.

Looking at the current RPI/SOS numbers and assuming that SUM/UM/UTEP each win some games against each other, I struggle with figuring out how the conference will have more than 1 bid this year.

For SOS the lower the number, the tougher. The higher the number, the easier. So y'all have played the easiest schedule in nCUSA and still have only managed 5 wins...

I think Memphis and Southern Miss will both make the NCAAs unless one of them takes a bunch of bad losses.

I sure hope that UAB, WKU, and ODU perform better in the future than they are this year.

Obviously, I hope that's true.

My comment was based on the probability that rpi's could be headed somewhat downward since all but a game or two will be within the conference. Just looking at the numbers, our conference average rpi must be in the 140s-150s, so it's going to be hard to improve much.

Hey JMS... just curious... we're not that great against the Big-6+4 mid majors.. but what's the road/away records? I'd be curious to know if our games were at home or were we playing on the road in places like Rupp, the Pit, etc.

UTEP has a victory over an AP top 10 ranked team... against Oregon, although, they weren't at the time

You bring up a good point. C-USA is 10-26 vs. the "big 6", but only 25% of those games were on the home court of a C-USA school. 50% of those games were played on the home court of the "big 6" school.

36 games of C-USA teams vs. "big 6" opponents
-Home games for C-USA team: 9 (25%)
-Away games for C-USA team: 18 (50%)
-Neutral court games: 9 (25%)

Yeah, I only include wins and losses vs. ranked opponents that were ranked at the time of the game. Oregon was not ranked when UTEP beat them on Dec 19. Since that loss to the Miners, the Ducks have won 9 in a row.

By the way, that is probably the win of the year for a C-USA team.
