ULL fans: I went to high school with a guy named Scott Hawkins. I believe he caught for y'all. Anyone know what he's up to now? Still playing ball?

RE: Baseball just on the horizon
One of the main disappointments I have of UNT leaving the Sun Belt is that we didn't get baseball up and going before we left. Makes me sad that I didn't get to travel to see the Belts baseball stadiums..

I am curious of how many of you guys will be willing to schedule us once we get baseball going in CUSA. More than likely it is going to be 2 years out with an official announcement next fall during the initial CUSA hoopla.

Any words of wisdom on things you guys would change if you were starting from scratch? Any things to avoid?

Can't wait for SBC Baseball either. We lost a lot of players and have like 21 newcomers on the roster, but those newcomers are highly regarded.

Here's Perfect Game's Sun Belt Preview, which ranks FAU as their preseason favorite:

I very much remember Hawkins. I'm not sure what hes doing, I don't think he had the fielding to make it in the pros, but god, his bat was MLB quality. My favorite memory of Scott was his senior year, we were playing a double header but I don't remember the opponent, game one we came out and played like crap and got blown out. I was on the third base line and Hawkins huddled the team together and just went off on the team in between game and how we were better than that. Game 2 when we came out, you could tell they were playing with a purpose and won going away in game 2. You'd be interested to know, I remember his senior season was my first as a season ticket holder (fresh outta college) and the print on the ticket book was the Hawkins fore-arm. I have good memories of that guy.

Yeah he had an attitude problem playing for our high school coach but it sounds like he got his act together in college...man he hit some balls in high school that might still be flying. Just raw power.

Scott lives in Lafayette and is working for an oil industry service company. He's married, and if I'm not mistaken has a couple of kids. You can find him on Facebook.

Not sure which poll is being referenced by some of our players (on Facebook) but they're not happy about it.

Hope they use that as a bit of motivation to keep up the high standard that has been established @ TXST.

I'm looking forward to following SBC Baseball this year as potential conference mates. We open with UGA at home and have our usual Ga Tech series along with Indiana for 3 at home and a midweek at Florida. Good Luck to the SBC!

RE: Baseball just on the horizon
So I thought I'd follow the football lead and list who we have coming back and where we need to replace

Fri starter - drafted
Saturday starter - drafted
Sunday starter - returns - may be moved in the rotation
Weekday starter - definitely will be moved to the weekend rotation
Top closer - drafted (also 2nd closer drafted; see RF)
1B - power hitter, drafted
likely replacement Ben McElroy
2B - graduated, drafted Jr season but not senior - graduate serving as team operations mgr
likely replacement - battle between True frosh JD Stinnett and true soph Colby Targun
3B - big problem last season but starter returning. Needs help with his bat. (Smelser) Could be challenged by Cody Perkins, Colby Targun or a transfer.
SS - returning true soph, Mattlege. Great fielding, bat came around late. Had a great summer ball season.
LF - returning starter that had a great summer (Orton)
CF - returner who will likely be the team leader (Mickan)
RF - drafted - also TXST career leader for saves - new players will battle for the job.
C - Senior returning (Stumph) with excellent backup
Short relief - Hunter Lemke - Cali Summer League All-American

Possible starters
Finnegan,K
Finnegan, J (yeah, brothers)- likely weekday
Black
Pitts
Williams (outside shot)

DH was a mess last season but my money is on Austen O'Neal if he doesn't take the 1B job from McElory

K Finnegan (along with Black) was part of that 57 inning shut out streak last year but he hit a wall 1/3 of the way into the season. Hopefully he has reclaimed his form.

Just saw the THEB capital expenditure list for UNT 2013-2017..

How much baseball stadium can you get for 12M? That seems WAY high to me. I am taking it that they are trying to build a setup that can be used for Regional/Super Regional play if it ever gets to that point?

Cajuns looked to build a new stadium four or five years back and the number came out somewhere around 28M for a stadium seating about 4500. I guess it depends on the size stadium you're building.

NCAA has made the Regional/Super Regional hosting rule very lax of late to encourage more Northern Teams to pick up their game. They let a couple schools host despite not having lights on the field.

My guess is that 12M is pretty much the cost for an average stadium.
