Pick a Stadium
Found this website which is an architectural firm that builds college stadiums, amongst other things, based in Louisville. They have a lot of clients. So, pick one, or suggest one. Remember, 15,000 seats is what we're aiming for. I personally like the stadium at Southern Illinois: Horsehoe, jumbotron on the one end, plenty of room for expansion.

I'm a fan of the horseshoe, dug down and room to grow. I also like seeing a Football complex at the end of that horseshoe that houses the lockerrooms/offices/training room/weightroom/academic centers. The Citadel has a beautiful representation of this. Western Carolina also has a very nice marriage of basketball/multi-purpose facility with football connected to it. The new construction for The Citadel and Western were much needed and gave them plenty of room for expansion or enhancements. At one point, Western had a plan to build over the stands to create hospitality and hotel suite accomodations that would be "academic based" operations for students and faculty to build and manage.

I'd really like to see two levels of "suites" available. I've gotten quite fond the "club" level that I've seen in several stadiums with cafe style and/or chairback box seating outdoors with a fully serviced interior Club/hospitality area. These things give such great flexibility for "admission" and perks as-well-as providing a great wide-open hospitaility area for other functions outside of a football game. App and Troy are two that I've been in and really like the concept and use.

I'm also a fan of the "overhangs" that do provide some shelter from rain and SUN!! I'm a much happier fan sitting in season ticket seats where there's a nice overhang.

Put a year round restaurant in there while your at it...nice view of the field. This stadium needs to be a busy place, year round....without a track.

I really like the horse shoe style stadium that southern Illinois has. That design farrrrr exceeds the concept drawing that was presented a few years back. The horse shoe really brings things together. Not a big fan of the separated grand stands like at App State.

Also, for all things holy... No track!

I agree with almost everyone else in America, no track. Other than that, I do not care whether its a horseshoe or seperated grandstands, as long as there is some room for future expansion.

I have to agree with the SIU stadium. With a grass bank in the horse shoe end it gives the stadium a closed in feel.

Saluki Stadium at SIU is great. I like BMO Field myself, but it cost about $65 million to build, which is out of the question for us. Saluki was built for less than half that much.

I don't think this one has been mentioned, but one close to ETSU that I like is Burke-Tarr Stadium at Carson-Newman

RE: Pick a Stadium
I've taken a pretty hard look at some of the available land on or around campus that would be open for construction; after using some of the measurement tools on google earth and looking at the rise and fall of the land, I think that I've come up with an ideal spot. Seems to me that the area between the CPA and physical plant is ideally located. There is just enough room to fit a stadium of dimensions 600ft X 500ft, it is situated directly across from one of the more picturesque parts of campus (dorm row) and the land is relatively (for east tennessee) flat where the actual field would be situated. The physical plant would probably need to be relocated from that spot but it wouldn't be a huge deal to relocate to buc ridge.

I can imagine the view of a stadium facade from dorm row and that whole road from the CPA to the Culp littered with tents, food, corn hole, and tailgating. Makes perfect sense to place a stadium here.

Yes I have thought of that location also. It has that great "mid-campus" feel to it and would give a good view of the campus plus the mountains in the background.

RE: Pick a Stadium
A good website with pictures and info on all FCS stadiums: http://www.championshipsubdivision.com/t...directory/

Just looking through these, with a brand new 15,000 seat stadium, we would definitely have one of the better facilities in FCS.
I like UTC's place the best (keeping in mind our seating capacity) , but I am also a fan of the bowled out look with at least 1 grassy hill a-la UVA or GSU in the endzone to accommodate overflow crowds.

I always thought that the only spot on campus that could accommodate a stadium was where the soccer field now sits but that area always felt so generic. Having a stadium at the end of dorm row just feels right.. it belongs there.

RE: Pick a Stadium
As I recall from my trips to other SoCon stadiums, the best stadium I witnessed was the Georgia Southern stadium. Best I-AA tailgating there too.

I guess UTC was pretty good too, but it was always empty. Went to a I-AA championship game there a while back. Deleware vs Colgate. It was FREEZING, but the atmosphere was good.

RE: Pick a Stadium
Just looking at the Samford stadium makes me truly not want a track around it. The smallish grand stands of a 1AA do not need to be that far off the field. Fans have got to be up and intimate with the field of play. That works for me.

By far the worst I-AA stadium I ever went to was Charleston Southern. That place is a joke.

And Samford's stadium reminds me of Tusculum.

The track at Samford puts the closest seat in the stands 66ft away from the sideline. Neyland Stadium puts the closest fan 41ft from the action... 66 ft is the 12th row at UT. (Isn't google earth amazing)

if their hellbent on having a track around the football field, couldnt the have the 1st permanant seating row about 10 feet off the ground and have pull-out bleacher seats to go out over the track down to ground levl? i guess that would make too much sense for anyone at etsu to do any kind of state anything planning/compromise

It just doesn't make sense to put a track around the football field. If they did incorporate a track into the stadium then where would they do the field part of track & field? Surely not on the football field.. Especially not with the shot put and long jump.

A track around the field is like a bumper sticker on an Aston Martin.
