Geron foul trouble...
Geron needs to fix his early foul trouble... Memphis needs the energy and physicality he brings to the team...

RE: Geron foul trouble...
It seems like a point of emphasis lately with the refs. They called a lot of hand checking today yet allowed a wrasslin match inside.

May be time to return Gerron to the bench & start Chris. Chris is playing much better (than he was not necessarily better than Gerron) & Gerron can't stay in the game because of fouls. He is overly aggressive IMO, and coming off the bench would provide a spark & may keep him out of foul trouble.

I agree that he is overly aggressive. But I also believe Pastner is playing CC perfectly. He is using CC when he is hot and playing hard on defense. As soon as he slacks up, Pastner pulls him. That makes it where almost every minute CC is on the floor he is producing. He just doesn't seem to be able to stay focused for long spurts.
I am not sure what to say about Gerron other than he HAS to stop going for the steals.
I used to be bothered that Cal didn't take more advantage of his fast handed players who could steal the ball. In fact, Cal was against going for steals. He wanted the players to not go for the risky play because it usually results in getting beat on defense. The one steal in 5-6 tries compared to the 4-5 times you miss and the dribbler breaks away doesnt balance.
Go for deflections on passes, but do not go after the dribble.

I agree 100% on going for steals too often and everyone of our guys do it...So I assume it is accepted by the coaching staff.

We used to be bad about trying to block every single shot.
Of course, I'm all for DJ doing that at anytime. My goodness what a weapon

I think the coaching staff believes that is how you start transition basketball. Which is true, but it is far and away from the best way to start transition. Rebounding is far more consistent without so much chance of picking up a foul. Now if they would just get our guys to rebound a little better.
