Some of the coaches they rate higher than Pastner:

Mark Gottfried, Dave Rice, Scott Drew, Justin Hutson (asst coach at UNLV!!!!), Dan Monson, Dave Rose (BYU), Fran Dunphy, Lorenzo Romar, Steve Lavin, Tommy Amaker

Not to mention the obvious ones like: Stevens, Smart, Few, Buzz Williams, Greg Marshall, Greg McDermott, Jamie Dixon, Jay Wright

I hate to say it but, I think "this board's" opinion of how highly Pastner is regarded by basketball people around the nation is totally incorrect. IMO, he is viewed as a great recruiter that greatly underachieves on the court with said talent. Great recruiter/bad coach. Maybe he can prove them wrong in the tourney this year. I sure hope so.

I would agree with the assessment but it only takes one run in the NCAA tournament to change that.

Yep. That changes everything.

No you're not! You want to be able criticize CJP. That's your only contribution and purpose for being here. Where did you come from? You're going on ignore!

Why are you so paranoid dude? I am just as big a Tiger fan as anyone on this board. And I want nothing more than for Pastner to win big at Memphis. Just pointing out that so far, the Pastner era has been somewhat of a disappointment to me. I actually have a feeling that he'll get that first tourney win this year.

Absolutely. And if he makes a run then I would hope we would do what it takes to keep him in Memphis.

IMO your IMO sucks. And if they rated CJP a 4-6 then their opinion is greatly misinformed. Probably one of the more important reasons they might rate CJP so low is he puts academics before basketball, students first, basketball is secondary. For schools who primarily care about a sports program's success having a coach with such an agenda isn't what they are looking for.

Sorry, but I think your IMO sucks. I primarily care about a sports program. That is what we are paying 1.7m for. We can get a qualified tudor for a whole lot less.

For chrisesakes. We're a commuter city school. Not Duke.

He puts academics before basketball? Yeah right.

I'm beginning to think that maybe these TAMMS are right about Pastner.

He is only a recruiter and is just a horrendous coach. He can't develop his players and damn sure is unable to control them. He shows zero sense of discipline. He never cusses nor does he ever challenge the officials. He has yet to draw a technical!!

The guy has only won two consecutive C-USA championships and a mere 75% of his games. That sucks. Bowen should terminate Pastner at the end of this season and pick from the long list RC was choosing from back in March 2009.

Wow, CUSA! Thats our goal now? There's some giants in the basketball world. I have no fingernails left worrying about how we'll do in this years tourney. Winning conference should be good enough to get us a "play-in game" for the big dance.

In 2009, nobody wanted to follow in the footsteps of Calipari. It would have been coaching suicide. I don't know if we'll have that problem the next time around.

I'm up early this morning. I just couldn't get any sleep worrying about the Marshall game today.

Let me know when Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart apply for the Memphis job.

Smart just lot to Richmond! I wouldn't have him.

The balance is better for teams that beat other good teams even if they lose against a bad team.

There are teams that win 70% of their games and dont get the same respect as a team that wins 60% with a good win mixed in.

I don't want to be the Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr. of basketball.
