After WKU leaves, the SBC should ...
... consider merging with the SWAC. Here are some benefits for the SBC:

1. It would spark some national interest for SBC schools. The SWAC has a stronger national following, which benefits the Belt schools have no national following. The truth is some of the Belt schools have no local following either. ULL and ULM have their biggest home crowds when they play Southern and Grambling. Can you imagine what an ASU and UAPB game or a Troy or Alabama State game would draw?
2. It would raise the level play on the basketball court and the football field. While the SWAC schools have the edge here, the Belt schools could be competitive. The benefit for the SWAC schools is that it will ease their schedules.
3. The Sun Belt's academic reputation will get a boost. This may be a deal killer since I am not sure if schools like Mississippi Valley would want have their reputation being damaged due to an association with the ULMs and Troys of the world.
4. This would likely get the SBC schools out from under the leadership of conference killer Karl Benson.

What do you think?

If Benson doesn't get on it, these will be his only options.

Hmmm, this is headed for the smack forum. I don't understand why there can't be a single expansion thread on the SBC forum. It is a legitimate topic. If someone starts a new thread, the mods can just merge the data with the expansion thread.

Highest rpi MBB school is 162. 7 schools ranked 228 or worse. 5 ranked 320 or worse. Then there is the matter of oh yeah, its an FCS conference. Academic reputation? 1 RU/H school and 3 Masters L schools. Everyone else is below that. Only one school has enrollment of over 10k. One crazy thread.
