Football Roster Observation (My we're young!)
I knew we were young, most of you all all this Board know we're young.

I just had no idea HOW young last years team was.....

Out of 105. ( I know this has been tweaked lately.)

44 were Freshman or Redshirt F.
28 were Sophmore or Redshirt S.

Almost 70% have 2-3 more years of eligibility left.

Losing 15 Seniors. Just a bit less than 15%.
18 Juniors about to become Seniors.

We won the MACC and went to the Orange Bowl with more than 2/3rd of the Roster being Freshman/Sophmores.

That's an amazing stat.

Go Huskies! 04-rock

RE: Football Roster Observation (My we're young!)
I think this is typical, but not 100% sure. My assumption is that younger players are not sure if they may end up as starters later in their careers and don't want to pass up the chance to start.

Think of Grady and Harnish. Both were fairly young and kept on the team until it became evident one was going to be starting, then the other disappeared, though in this case it was a little more well known. An O-Lineman isn't going to take his lumps for four years if he is going to play third string.

Though I might be wrong.

This is refreshing. Florida State was one of the few teams that could have challenged Alabama...these young NIU guys got to play against the highest completion in the OB.

It's college football.....lack of performance, homesickness, injuries, grades, arrests, etc. can lead a player to a jump into the 2-deep in a split second.

I believe it is typical, as well. A lot of guys decide football isn't for them anymore after their freshman and sophomore years.

Toledo had:
48 freshman (42.89%)
28 soph (25%)
19 juniors (17%)
17 seniors (15.2%)

bgSUCKS:
42 freshman (41.6%)
26 soph (25.7%)
23 juniors (22.8%)
10 seniors (9.9%)

EMU:
38 freshman (38%)
23 soph (23%)
20 junior (20%)
19 seniors (19%)

I always thought Toledo was fishy.
How do they have 112 on their team?

Maybe our youth is not that far off the "norm", but it is about as close to the most youthful extreme of the "norm" you can get.

Thinking "happy thoughts" until LOI Day. 03-cloud9

I do not believe there is a roster limit for the NCAA.

Might seem abnormal but this is more or less the roster composition of every NCAA football team in the country. Obviously Frosh year is typically going to have the highest number of players because kids are only going to quit/transfer from there, not like anyone in D1 football isn't playing their Frosh season and then comes out after that. And no there isn't a limit to roster size, there is a limit to the number of players that can be in camp, on scholarship, traveling, etc. but none simply on the number of players on the team.

Wouldn't it make sense that you have more freshman because you have your freshman that are redshirting and then your freshman that redshirted the year before? It's pretty much two different classes put into one.
