Right! In one of his last two years, he missed on 6 good JUCO signees 100%. Not one made it to UAB that fall.

I hope he comes to Birmingham!

Julius McCall now switching commitment from UAB to Troy.

There may be a strategy at play here for UAB, but it certainly gives the appearance that something is going on and also leads many to question how many decent replacements we can get this close to signing day.

According to who?

He is on the fence, but I don't see any official word. Did he tweet it?

What is up with #UAB? Chelsea's Julius McCall has decommitted from the Blazers and is now committed to Troy.

Yeah, I was afraid of that, but I don't understand it. I seriously question if they gave him a bag of cash (I'm not kidding). Julius was FIRM with UAB, and Troy came out hard after him, and Julius stayed firm. Then all of a sudden, he takes a visit and flips with no good explanation.

Does the phrase "keep it down home, cuz" ring a bell?

Regardless of the reasons behind their leaving, this looks bad. In this state, perception is reality. This are the same recruits that when they committed, we would hear messages from the staff like, "This is a great day for UAB Football" now that they are leaving like the house is on fire, you are telling me we are in great shape. Something smells... and denying it is not going to make it go away!

Well, we've got a week and a half until it all shakes out, so I'll wait to panic.

To reference Richard Marx for the second time in this thread,

"Don't mean nothin'
These words that they say.
Don't mean nothin'
These games that people play.
Don't mean nothin'
No victim, no crime.
No, it don't mean nothin' til they sign it on the dotted line."

I believe there are some guys that we really backed off of, and those guys leaving doesn't hurt because we're in on some better players.

Julius was not one of those. He committed to UAB in July. Troy came hard after him last week, and he went on a visit just for the experience, and he came back torn by his decision, yet, he's committed to flip to Troy. That smells like a shady deal to me.

Or, he just liked Troy better.

As hard as that is to imagine.

Im hoping the reason we are losing these guys is because we have found better options. Maybe. Hey is trooper Taylor still looking for a job? Lol.

Maybe he thought he could play earlier there.

We have RB's and maybe the Gardendale commit made him think a little more.

He was a UAB fan, and I'll quote him when he was a freshman: "I'd love to play at UAB someday."

Oh well. We'll move on. I'm done posting about him unless something changes.

I still like a lot of our commitments, so if we can just hang on and pick up some OLs that visited this past weekend, we'll be fine!

As far as coming in and filling an immediate need, Julius was not needed. I hate to see a guy committed for so long all of a sudden flip, but this one doesn't hurt nearly as bad as some of the others. It's not like RB is an impossible position to find guys at, and if Reeves has another monster season next year, we may be more appealing to future recruits. It's weird losing all these guys, but I'd rather have guys getting poached from our class than have 25 guys that nobody else seems interested in.

I prefer to wait and see who actually signs on the dotted line. Some folks are acting like this recruiting thing is new.

See you at the SDS.

+1

That is what we used to get under Callaway. This is much better.

Again, we apparently have gotten some commitments from this weekend, but we seem to be keeping it quiet.

We already have two RB's committed in this class with good RB's on the team so I don't think losing him is a big deal. Just sucks to see him committed for so long and flip to Troy.
