I'm sorry & please forgive, but I have to play the UT-Austin TV announcers classic "Uh oh" just one more time concerning a Longhorn TD that the broadcast team knew was one bad homer call at DKR Memorial. (North Texas plays UT again in in 2014 or 2015 matchup--if we had another 5K-10K seats at Apogee I really think the Longhorns (who have always been most accomodating in scheduling UNT in past decades) would actually come to Apogee Stadium on our campus to tee it up, but, oh well.....here's that homer call below...

Then our getting back to last decade when we did go to 5 NO's Bowl games (winning one against Cincinnati) while getting schooled by USM and 3 others in that series.
So, yes, UNT has actually been there--done that with some semblance of college football success at a higher level and I won't even go into the Hayden Fry Era when I was a student--post Indian wars, of course.
That loss to Northwestern State (is it UL-Nachitoches now?) really seems out-of-place.
Football was fun back then. It was less predictable.

As I posted, AndreWare....."1988 was one weird football season."
I remember when that same NW State (of Natchitoches, La) walked into Amon Carter Stadium at TCU in what I think was Patterson's 1'st season and walked away with a win. Arkansas State hired their HFC the next season but he didn't stay long in Jonesboro as I recall. NOTE: I made a road trip to NW State back in our 1-AA days and found their campus and city to be a very cool, laid back Old South sort of place. They filmed Steel Magnolias in Natchitoches, La.

Not sure about how the others will play out, but I would be willing to bet you see decent improvement from the F_U schools and UNT.
Middle Tennessee has 16 starters returning, eight on each side.
Yep. And speed, lots of it.

I'd say WKU or Ark State but instead of going after quality programs stupid ass, Banowsky went after garbage attached to large markets.

They wouldn't be stuck in that situation expect that ECU threatened to take their ball and go home unless they go travel partners close bye...
So ECU gets what they want, still bails and now complain that the teams that were brought in close to ECU are not good enough..
Don't you have an BE board or a 1AA conference board or something to troll?

Actually ECU never pushed for Slumbelch schools. We did push for ODU, and Charlotte was shoved down our throat by the rest of the commuter schools in this garbage league. I believe ODU will be a better long term addition than any of the turds added from the SBC. They've already got a significantly larger athletic budget than those SBC schools. If you're going to poach the SBC you should at least have enough sense to take the best athletic programs.

Excuse me mr. ECU fan, but who were the ones who didn't buy into that same type talk when C-USA was looking at ECU? It might be better to remember your history before you get too egotistical.

RE: Which newbie will do better and rate them
Just to point out a fact about returning starters.... It doesn't always equal success. Last year FIU returned EVERY starter on defense and I believe 8/11 on offense and we went from 8-5 to 3-9.... That is why Cristobal isn't around. We do have a ton of talent still. Look at our recruiting classes over the past few years, especially last year. We've done pretty well... All that talent is still there. If Coach Turner can actually coach I could see us winning 4-5 games, maybe 6 to go bowling. In my opinion we are definitely ahead of FAU (of course ) and UNT. MTSU has a good team. I don't feel qualified to compare us to the other additions since I haven't seen enough of them. Don't sleep on FIU next year. Actually, yes please do. It's more fun that way.

Arkansas State isn't any better as an overall athletic program than any of the additions. People just look at the last 2-3 years in football only and ignore everything else.
FAU for example is down 4-3 to Ark St in football, up 1 game in basketball and up 10-5-1 in baseball.
